Bike rebuilt but no power?
Hi everyone and thanks for the input in advance :)
I had to strip my bike due to it being stolen and now after rebuilding it I have no power anywhere : / Couple of things to tick off: - Battery is connected - I think the wiring loom is wired up correctly - And of course the bike did run before I messed with it Just thinking what could I of easily missed off while rebuilding it, I have spent literally all day rebuilding it so I am going to leave it for today and go back to it tomorrow with a fresh mind. If anyone fancies giving me a hand and your close to me (Bolton/Wigan) I would be very much appreciated as I need it for work ASAP :) Thanks again. Kieran |
Re: Bike rebuilt but no power?
What bike do you have?

Re: Bike rebuilt but no power?
SV650 99-02 Faired

Re: Bike rebuilt but no power?
fuses? is the ignition barrel still intact?
|
Re: Bike rebuilt but no power?
Yes all that is intact and fused are fine.
|
Re: Bike rebuilt but no power?
is the battery in good condition?
|
Re: Bike rebuilt but no power?
Yep practically new.
|
Re: Bike rebuilt but no power?
The pointy has a tip over switch. Does the curvy have this?
|
Re: Bike rebuilt but no power?
Tip over switch?
|
Re: Bike rebuilt but no power?
Its a sensor that when it senses a knock/bang it cuts the power-unsure if it cuts out the whole system or just the engine.
|
Re: Bike rebuilt but no power?
Hmm, I don't think the curvy has one.
|
Re: Bike rebuilt but no power?
Loose connection.Main fuse.Kill switch. If you cant trace the fault best get a multimeter and find where the leccy runs out that way.
|
Bike rebuilt but no power?
Curvy does not have tip over switch.
Just to clarify; when you say 'no power' what exactly do you mean? Does it run but badly? Is there no electrics, or... something else? I think we should be told. |
Re: Bike rebuilt but no power?
Okay. Thanks for all the replies. I found the problem.
A fuse had blown and when i try to renew it just blows straight away. I see the spark!! What can be causing this. Thanks Kieran |

Re: Bike rebuilt but no power?
Hi.
Problem fixed, it was a bad battery lead. I have power now but my starter button will not work. However power is getting to other things. Lights ect. Stand is down and clutch is held in when trying to use it. Any ideas? Kieran |
Re: Bike rebuilt but no power?
are the clutch and sidestand switches working correctly?
|
Re: Bike rebuilt but no power?
Wheres the clutch switch?

Re: Bike rebuilt but no power?
Just connected the clutch switch (if thats the one under lever) however it is still not working.
|
Re: Bike rebuilt but no power?
Does the clutch switch actually work? Also I think its a normally open switch, so you can disconnect the clutch switch and short the two connectors for it on the wiring loom side using a paper clip or similar. That will eliminate the switch while you troubleshoot. Also check the same for the sidestand switch.

Re: Bike rebuilt but no power?
Bridge the two clutch switch connections and see if it works then?
Gah, beaten to it! |
Re: Bike rebuilt but no power?
Will give it a go 1 minute :)

Re: Bike rebuilt but no power?
Can you hear the starter relay click when you push the starter button?
There's a pretty good troubleshooting chart in the maintenance manual- it would be best to get one and follow it. There's lots of interconnected stuff in the starting circuit- sidestand switch, clutch switch, kill switch, ignition switch, starter relay- all of it has to be properly connected and operating for power to be sent to the starter motor, which also has to be properly connected and working. |
Re: Bike rebuilt but no power?
I cant hear the starter relay kick in.
And i will take a look. Cheers |
Re: Bike rebuilt but no power?
Okay so I put a spanner on my fuse box from + to - and the bike turned over so I am loosing power before it gets to that area. Going to have to check my wires i'm guessing.
