Curvy naked for £1799 - thoughts?

Hi all
Is the 2001 650 naked in Fins priced a little steep AT 1799?
I saw it advertised in MCN.
My K5 is gone since March 2012 due a hit+run driver but
am lonesome again for a vee twin!

£1500 - £1600 tops for a mint curvy. Any more than that and you are creeping dangerously close to K3-K4 money.

that is insane! i paid that for a curvy 5 years ago!
For me, I'd pay nothing over £1200 for a curvy. Pointy is far more reliable mechanically and can be picked up for little over £1200 if you buy smart.

yeah used bikes have gone crazy money lately, I paid £3000 for a 2 year old k5 with 500 miles on the clock at the end of 2007.... I've seen k5's with 10,000 miles going for £2500-£3000 recently. Probably since not as many people are buying new/changing for new bikes every year or 2 like they used to..

Is this a dealer who is selling? then the price isn't that far out compared to say a private seller on e bay. Plus with all the nice weather of late everyone wants a bike.

If you can hold out for 4 months when the clocks change, it's ****ing down with rain and freezing cold then the demand and prices will drop. Depends how much that extra couple of hundred is worth to you.

£1800 for a curvy!!! as said pointys can be cheap, I paid less than £1200 for a 56 plate s model ;) bit tatty, but loaded with blingy crap Ive since sold, I wouldn't pay much for a curvy these days.

I've noticed a general trend that bike prices in the south are more than if the same bike was sold up north, I don't think it's just coincidence either.

That said the max I would pay for a 2002, low miles immaculate curvy with some useful goodies would be 1500 quid so yea I think that's very overpriced.

I looked at a bike in fins recently, most obnoxious salesman(/owner) I've ever come across. Bike didn't have the "full service history" that was claimed (in fact it didn't have a single stamp) also had no tax (understandable as they had obviously had the bike some time) refused to budge a penny on price even to cover the tax! Thought this was a buyers market...I do know gforce in gillingham have a few pointys for sale not sure on price but they gave cracking service for me.

Or just buy private. At this level you get the same bike for half the money, and dont think an old bike wont have a few niggles and issues just because it comes from a dealer.

They are clearly hoping for someone to have a mid life crisis and buy this iconic motorcycle that is rapidly becoming a classic. :)

Worth every penny to ride and as an investment for the future. Forget savings accounts, Curvy SVs which were only made for a few years are now an appreciating asset class. [-o<

I live in Redhill. In fact, I have a red semi faired curvy of the same age, and about a month ago, saw a naked in red, in Redhill, private sale with this sort of mileage (I recall it as its closeish to mine) and toyed with buying it to have a "matching pair". It was private sale, very tidy, and up for £1295.

I suspect that this bike, is that, bought by the dealer, £500 lumped on the price, and for resale.

I would also have to say Finns do my servicing, and they are uniformly excellent and helpful. Never had a problem with them as a garage. Not the cheapest, but when they service the bike, it always comes back feeling like new - nothing seems to my limited eyes to be overlooked, and I thihk on balance they are better than anyone else I've used for servicing. And for example, I went in wanting a tyre a few months ago, (but knowing the chain was also on its way out) and theyinvited me into the workshop, said I still had some mileage out the tyre, and if I was going to spend £x with them, they felt the chain was dangerous. Actually looking at it, I agreed with them (I knew it was on its way out).

So in summary, its got a dealer mark up on it, but the dealer is pretty good in my view.

I sold my mint curvy for £1100 last year. Paid £1600 for it 4 years before that. £1800 for a curvy is crazy money.

i went into Fins about 2 months ago looking at a daytona 600. prices were not too bad but i do think that curvy is quite high.

It seems positively cheap compared with this:

I do wonder if some dealers are smoking narcotics sometimes. Madness :smt120

As someone said, you are buying from a dealer, so for a 10+yr bike theres some insurance. I think the previous owner said in his ebay add he ran a riding school and it was his private back up bike. The ebay ad prictures made it look in fantastic condition for a 10yr old Suzuki.

I also think that of all the SV's, a curvy naked will hold value, better as fewer were sold from new and so the remaining ones have "scarcity". For all those saying "theres plenty more", actually ebay only throws up a handful each week of the 130+ Sv's generally for sale.

Given that it was a pretty bike too, accessible with low seat height, very "monster" like but with all the jap attributes of build quality and parts availability, over those ghastly slabby pointy's with those ugly frames and silly clocks, I think SV prices have already hit a low point personally. Theres little wrong with them, few inherrent weaknesses to stop them running another 20 years with maintanance and care, they're not "fragile" and can be used daily or parked outside.

There will always be tired old dogs for sale, but fewer minter low milers emerging. If you own the bike for 5 years, whats overpaying (given the dealer warranty/presale service is worth something) a couple of hundred, if its the right bike, right colour (early SV's are horrible reds and yellows) over the life of ownership? its not even 1 set of tyres, and you might get a decent sale discount on some new bt023's from Finns.

Curvy SV - original and best. Iconic. Priceless future classic. Own a piece of history, £1700 is very reasonable, if its what you want..
But I'm biased. Don't listen to me.

One thing, if the dealer gives a bit of (good few months) warranty with it, then that extra 2-300 over private sale prices could be a wise investment.

When I was looking for a naked SV there were none around so ended up paying over the odds for what I wanted. Plenty of S versions for little money tho but not much use if you don't want one.

fook all in my opinion, anything that goes wrong they'd come back with "what do you expect it's 10 year old... reasonable wear and tear... not a warranty"
