Films I've watched recently...

(feel free to add yours)

Age of kill
British film starring Martin Kemp. Shockingly bad. Terrible. Avoid.

Child 44
Stars Tom Hardy - I think he's great.
Set in a rather grim Russia, about a series of child murders. Not gory. Worth watching. My wife didn't like it much and whilst it wasn't Toms best film, it was worth watching

The watch -- argh balls ;) Richard ayoade being Richard ayoade
Pitch perfect - why oh why .. oh I know it was so good they made pitch perfect 3
The hobbit - a 3hr story about short people going to a castle but not quite getting there. Good for those that like the story about short people, tall people and a old fogie heading to a mountain with dubious Ratner jewellery.

Dragon - Donnie yen.. slow but engaging at the end. More plot twists than a packet of Fusilli. Not your usual chopsocky affair

I watched Locke recently on Netflix.

An entire film shot inside a BMW driving down the motorway doesn't sound like a winner but I thought it was utterly brilliant.

YOu're right. Scientifically proven.

finaly got round to watching Exodus-gods and kings.. ok so it was a bible story about Moses but i enjoyed it.

the new Mad Max. i was a bit dubious about watching this as remakes are never as good as the original but i must say what a cracking film.

Other films I've seen recently that I recommend (all found on Netflix)

Filth - Comedy with James McAvoy
Flight - Denzel Washington
Sin City: A Dame to Kill For - Liked it, but wasn't as good as the first one.

Filth and flight were great!

Watched The Voices last night and It Follows. Both had rubbish endings. The voices was pretty clever i thought.

Blackhawk Down. I'm on my own for a few nights so I'm watching stuff Lady Poppy would not like. Quite enjoyed it (never saw it when it came out) but as with all films of this ilk they seem to have never empty magazines in their guns... Best bit was the guy deafened by his buddy's heavy calibre weapon shouting "WHAT?" Every time someone spoke to him.

Pawn

With Ray Liota playing a small part in this movie

Watchable heist/kidnap movie

Re: Films I've watched recently...

Son of a gun. Ewan McGregor.
Surprisingly good (and unholiwood) Ozzie film.

Not strictly a movie, but 6 episodes back to back of True Detectives, fabulous stuff. This was series 1 with Woody Harlsen & Matthew McCaunahey as the detectives.

Series 2 is not quite as good, but its watchable.

I wanted to see this at the cinema but it only had a very limited release. Has Ewan got a big beard?

Last film I saw was Home. I take the nephews to the Odeon kids screenings on the weekends as I get free tickets so if there's a fun on they like the look of we go.

I also went to the premiere of Warriors which is a film about the Maasai and FGM which was very good. I gave them a few hundred quid to help make it, as did a lot of the cricket journalists, photographers and media. A story with telling.

Just watched quantum of solace as I have never seen it. Quite enjoyed it, the first film for a while I have actually taken notice of the storyline.

American Sniper

Found it entertaining and a good story but as with all American war films there is too much patriotism bull poo in it.

I've watched the equaliser and American sniper recently, great films.
Lucy is good too.

Shaun the sheep!
Maybe better for a younger audience than me. TBH, I'm not sure I could tell you the story!

Surpringly good, saw it work the neice and nephew.

Seem it already but will be rewatching Edge of Tomorrow this eve.

Ground hog day meets guns and aliens.

Done just right, they could have easily over done the ground hog element but it works well

Re: Films I've watched recently...

I was pleasantly surprised by edge of tomorrow as well. Great special effects too.

Amadeus 06-08-15 07:02 PM

Re: Films I've watched recently...

I have Edge of Tomorrow but I've not watched it yet. Looks ljust like Source Code to me. I do find it frustrating that there aren't more new ideas for films (and all these remakes of films just a few years old? Ridiculous)

PyroUK 06-08-15 07:12 PM

Films I've watched recently...

You're right in that it's a similar premise to source code, which I also liked, but thankfully the sfx in it and slightly different aim (aliens) differentiate it enough for me.

Unlike some other films which are essentially the same, e.g. armageddon and deep impact.

Watched 'The calling' with Susan Serandon, movie about a serial killer

Shouldn't have been a surprise - it has got Tom hardy in it (see start of thread)! :-)

Fantastic four. Don't. Just don't.

The entire movie felt like a 1.5 hour trailer.

In fact, you know when they say all the best bits are in the trailer? Well this is worse. The trailer was like a directors cut version as they cut a whole scene from the film which may have actually saved it

Thanks for the warning, I was thinking about seeing this film but it's a remake of a film that's only 10 years old and has less Jessica Alba in it.

PyroUK 08-08-15 11:32 AM

It is meant to be a reboot but it failed epicly. The original ones weren't good either however were better.

Sue storm looks good, but that's about it.

According to the internets there may have been issues in production and the studio, Fox, got involved and this what ruined it.

The director actually apologised for the film 😕

Wishing I went to see rogue nation which has received very good reviews
