Enfield Continental GT

Had a pretty good review in Ride mag this month. I think it's a very nice looking motorcycle. 3 year warranty too.

But has it got a USB socket? :-)

Nope, and no ride by wire/engine modes/cruise control/traction control/electronic @r5ewipe/nosepicker/satnav/stereo. Thankfully....

Nice colour scheme names! I quite like the Dr Mayhem model.

Re: Enfield Continental GT

Really like this bike, both the GT and Interceptor versions.
There's plenty very positive first ride reviews on the interweb from the launch event in California.
This could be my next bike, but I'll be waiting a while to see how the reliability shapes up.
Hopefully reliability will be similarly superior to the singles as the rest of the package appears to be.

(that +ve enough for you Seeker?)

Re: Enfield Continental GT

I'm already thinking about modifying one, there are mudguard extenders for both front and rear as factory options.
There's elements of each of the two versions I would like to combine, prefer the GT but would want normal bars rather than the clip-ons.
Not keen on the big trail bike bars on the Interceptor.

Re: Enfield Continental GT

Also prefer the silver wheel option.

Re: Enfield Continental GT

i suppose if you want lineage then RE are the oldest still in production motorcycle company in the world.

the Indians love their RE's just like the yanks love their HD's.

when RE ceased production in the UK all the tooling was shipped over to India. the RE never progressed much design wise until recently and if you want a true modern classic then look no further.

personally i would like one but not as my main bike and if it was a choice between the RE650CGT or an SV i would take the SV every time. depending on the price new i would prefer an old 50-60's classic.

Re: Enfield Continental GT

I rather like those. The Interceptor is a bit more my cup of tea but alas the nearest dealer is a long way away.

Re: Enfield Continental GT

at £6499 i would rather have an SV650 even the interceptor at £5499 cant beat the SV.

Talking Heads 20-11-18 06:12 PM

Re: Enfield Continental GT

The Enfield can beat the current SV hands down in any test of mudguard performance and bungee friendliness.
And the Enfield tank fits perfectly with all the other bits, unlike the current SV which has hideous plastic panelling hiding a hideous mess.
The current SV is a really good bike and a genuine bargain, but its very far from perfect.

47 ponies and 38ft/lb - wow, I'll keep my AL7, can't see the ' badly fitted tank' and all the other ' bad bits ' when I am riding it anyway, but the extra 30 gee gees and more torque suits me.

Talking Heads 20-11-18 06:57 PM

Re: Enfield Continental GT

Very true about the spec, but 47 ponies are more than enough.
I'll probably keep my AL7 too, but the Enfield has a certain something which appeals to me.

That and the aesthetics.
It looks like a proper motorbike should.

Re: Enfield Continental GT

yes it is pretty but hows it going to stand up to the UK weather. lets face facts its built in India.. they dont have the best track record for making stuff.

Re: Enfield Continental GT

Time will tell.
I wouldn't dream of buying one for at least two years after release.

Reminds me of my youth, looking at motorcycle books of the day with Z900s, Moto Guzzi Le Mans and Bonnevilles as well as the more racing inspired Yamaha LC and my first bike a Suzuki X5 (with 125 stickers on it..;) ).

I like it.

Well he certainly likes it, gushing with praise. Bodes well.

Just need to wait and see what the real world quality control and reliability turn out like.
The singles are pretty awful from what I can gather.
Hopefully with this all new product Enfield have upped their game.

Interceptor demonstrators now in dealers.....

Re: Enfield Continental GT

Their website kind of says:

"Royal Enfield Continental GT is the lightest, fastest, most powerful Motorcyle with 650 cc engine, get test ride and feel experience."

No it isn't. Not by a long shot. Interestingly whilst this comes up in search results and is embedded in the page code several times, it doesn't actually appear rendered on the site itself.

Sneaky?
