YAIT - Yet Another Insurance Thread
I've got my requote through from CIA insurance.
With three year no claims I'd have expected my insurance to have gone down. For third party only they want £450. It was £301 until I told them about the three points. *uck that! I'm 21 and looking for something more realistic otherwise the bike is going. Anyone under similar circumstances and getting a good deal? Incidently I'm looking for a TMAX and the insurance is £350. Still way too high. Andy. |
£450 3PFT for a 21 year old with points on his licence... sounds pretty reasonable to me!
It's part of being young and having points on your licence... you'll grow out of it ;) |
Only advice I can give is keep looking around. I got a good quote from BikeTeam. Link on the mainsite and discount to if I remember correctly.
|
Try motorcycle direct, i've just insured my SV650 through them, it's my first bike, i've got three points and a car accident claim which was a 50/50 fault and they charged me £300 TPFT. The bike is garaged and has a datatool.
|
BillyC ... I know but its third party ONLY (no fire and theft) and 3yr no claims. £450 is stupid!
£450 + maintenance + fuel + £65 tax -v- £250 bus pass .... |

But I HATE buses :x
|
£550 tpft for me, 23 y/o, 2 year NCB, no convictions, no claims/accidents for a 2000 650S stored off the road.
Think yourself relatively lucky, I have to pay about £800 for my FC insurance which is required by the finance company. |
Oh, tp only, hmm, let me get a requote.
Ok, £309, which is ok, but I'd much rather have the theft insurance, personally. |
Perhaps I'll forget the 3 points :)

So you can either pay up and ride your SV to the max or get the T-Max and ride it to the min. . |

Have you tried Motorcycle Direct? My bike is stored on the road, no alarm or immobiliser, no NCB, and 3 points on my licence - £352 TPFT. Other places started at £400 + . I had to sort my car insurance out last week either, you really don't want to know how much I paid in insurance last Thursday. For my car, my 3 points meant an added £552 on my premium! |

Now I've got four points on my licence since I last renewed and my premium has actually gone down (£229 FC) but my car insurance has risen by £150! What's that all about? . |
Some insurers ignore the first 3 points if it's a speeding rap... Worth looking around. Check out the websites, they'll usually specify that in the criminal record bit.
But don't "forget" the points, it actually won't affect your insurance in your case- misdeclaration can't invalidate third party cover- but it will get you done for fraud and sued for hte cost of any payout. Not cheap :) Just about to reinsure mine, I'll see how I get on. Need to find someone who'll cover all the mods as well... |
I've just insured mine, passed test last week, garaged with meta 357 alarm, alphadot, pillion passenger and european cover.
£188 TPFT and that was through motorcycle direct and blackhorse. 08702 642323 could give them a try? I got the number from the discount insurance card I got from the bike shop. being over 30 probably helps :) |
Carsick your insurance seems high as im 23 with 0 no claims but 4 years with full bike licence. Bike kept off the road but not garaged im paying £237 with bennetts for tpft. (excess is £650 with is steep).
|
The XS on that quote was £175, but I've only had a bike license for 1 full year.
|
So its not too bad considering then. think £650 is very high though just hope i never have to use it.
|
I wouldn't be happy with a £650 XS, personally.
I'm not terribly happy about the £350 XS I have on my FC policy. |

Next year i will ring around a few more places but didnt think the price was too bad as i havent been riding for past two years.
