Max bhp Poll

Just a general wonderment really. What bhp has everyone got at the back wheel? I've got the full Akrapovic race system, K&N air filter, Dyno Jet and the TRE mod and its doing 73.2bhp at the back wheel. My college has had the same mods done and is running 73.1bhp at the back wheel. How about everyone else?

Grinch 15-04-05 12:13 PM

If you can find anyone doing a free run I'd tell you..

johnnyrod 15-04-05 12:19 PM

Bear in mind that a bike run on different dynos will give different results. I have a 1999 Classic with the same set-up as yourself, plus ignition advancer, and on PDQ's dyno it gave 73.0bhp:

http://www.johnnyrod.co.uk/dyno2.gif

You really can't split single BHP, what you need to look for is differences quoted on the same bike and dyno if it's mods you're looking for. Some tuning houses (who could it be?) seem to quote figures that make thier sales better. Basically, all three of our bikes are the same unless there are differences in the shape of the torque curve.

Also I'm told that the first ones (1999/2000) were quite variable in their stock output. I have also found a variety of carb balance and other settings on new bikes, so maybe that's the reason.

mysteryjimbo 15-04-05 01:33 PM

I'm running 102bhp......on a GSXR 600....

Is this open to all bikes??

Italianjob 15-04-05 02:49 PM

I have a blue (faster colour) SK4 with a Scorpion can, 45-tooth sprocket and Shell optimax fuel and I get 33.2 bhp on the rear wheel! 8)

Nope wheel. Some small tuning tweaks have been made......

However its not mine yet. 6 weeks! Still its sitting on my drive

BURNER 15-04-05 03:10 PM

73 sounds about right for a SV('99-'02) with the usual mods of jets, filter and zorst. I've got that and didn't have to get a full system.

160bhp... GSXR1000 K3 (Yoshi can and PC III)

Has anyone got any figures for k4/k5 SV650? I'd be interested to see what to expect - probably just with an end can and PC III.

norvidick 15-04-05 04:06 PM

Hi every one, I get 73.2bhp out of my 2002 that was last October at the MCN autum spectacular at Skegnes if any one is going to the spring one this weekend you can get it done for free, the only perfomance mod done to mine is that I have fitted a Art race can,
I have put a pre srad gsxr 750 front end in mine but need to get some riser bars to stop the cables hitting the top of the fairing on full lock will pos a picture when it is finnished.

northwind 15-04-05 05:15 PM

Mine only made 71.2 last time it was run, but that was before the cams, and with the Rene air kit and really ropey rule-of-thumb jetting :) With the cams and the Race RS if I'm not in the top half of the 70s once it's properly jetted I'll be fairly unamused... (all rear wheel)

Old fogey alert!!

Didn't Coombest's K3 SVS have 83.1bhp at the back wheel (before it got mashed ) :?:

When we were looking for a dyno to use at the MRO race meetings I took my bike around 4 or 5 different dynos over a two week period so I could get a ball park figure.

I ended up with a variety of figures ranging from 76 hp to 70 hp at the rear wheel. The moral of the story is that just because you got a good figure on a particular day doesn't mean much when comparing with other dynos, other runs on difference days, etc.

Yup - 'fraid so!!

I was intending to take it back and get it run at the rear wheel but someting put paid to that!! (Can't think what!!?)

Any way - I will soon be taking my new baby down to see what I get from her!

northwind 18-04-05 05:59 PM

That's cheating :)

Does anyone know how to convert the different power figures? Since they all work off the same base information, there must be a way to work back and get the root inputs, and then recalculate into the different formats, surely?

SPeeeeDY 19-04-05 05:50 PM

i have a K3 with sports exhaust and K&N air filter, It puts out a whopping .......

I see the search function is working today
Sureley declaring those mods to insurance makes it far more expensive than, say, a ZX9 or something ?

Beggar me!!

How the hell can you not insure anything with more power for less than £2300 a year?!?! Are you 21, brand new licence, no garage, living in central Basra?

For me to upgrade the SV650S K6 (standard) to a GSXR 750 K4 (standard) would only increase my premium by £60 for the year, fully comp!!

Lozzo 11-07-07 01:24 PM

Re: Max bhp Poll

Mr Triumph tells me I have 147bhp at the crank and he didn't let my Daytona 955i out of the factory unless it had a tested 130bhp at the rear wheel on the factory dyno. Not a clue what my standard naked K3 SV650 makes, and I don't suppose I ever will. I'm guessing my SR250 flat-tracker thingy makes about 15bhp, or at least that's what it feels like cos it's in dire need of a rebore - talk about sluggish and no compression. The Gixer is incapable of making anything except a nice ground anchor

Not trying to be a pedant but I think he means that he has spent that to get an apparent 89bhp... not on the insurance!

I fully realise that.

My point was that I'd prefer to buy a more powerful bike to start with.

Take a brand new SV (call it £4500), then spend £2300 on power enhancements. I'd rather just spend £6500 on something with more to give out of the factory, possibly a little older (year or two maybe), and then the rest of the balance on insurance.

No worries - I thought you had misinterpreted it!

Totally agree - I wanted a bit more go, so I bought a different bike! :riding::thumleft:

Same, and I'm still looking. Still leaning towards the GSXR750 as a weekend toy & the SV as a commuter. But I need to re-design both front & back gardens, and rip down two sheds to make a new home for my toy (and also a bike workshop) first. Then (and only then) I've got approval from those who must be obeyed to blow a serious wedge of cash - just want to make sure it's on the right thing.

If the honda chosen has a longer power band than the SV through each gear, is capable of eating motorway miles, has loads of options for luggage (don't mind soft or hard - ooeer), a decent pillion seat, and is reasonable on insurance....

Then a honda it'll be. But not only honda's fit that criteria, so I have a few options to play with. ;)

I'm not even 25 yet, and local dealerships don't like under 25's taking bikes for test rides. With all the work to do to the house/garden/sheds, can you guess where my 25th birthday will hopefully be spent? :D

Patience is proving difficult though. :( (My comment yesterday at home was "BTW, I've been looking at insurance quotes, if I come home one day with a different bike, don't panic too much!")

sounds nice. 89hp though? thats got to be on a dynojet or fuchs dyno?

Mine ran on a dynapro dyno putting out 91hp uncorrected and 79.64hp true rear wheel hp.

Bike is now bigger and better with a few other mods so should crack the 80 for true hp and be up near 95 uncorrected hp:cool: :D

You've got another 25 years to wait until you're ready for a VFR then. To give them their due, they do have plenty of storage for your Honda branded pipe and slippers.

Don't buy a Honda, book a place at a retirement home instead.

As Chunks says...got 84bhp on the Dynapro.....estimated well over 90 on a dynojet. Must get that done before i goes to its new home!. Then can put a chart up with stock..minitwin BHP..dynapro BHP and Dynojet BHP...
