CARBED vs FUEL INJECTED

Are the newer ones really slower? I have seen some comments from people calling the pointies slow. Is this really the case? I'm getting an '05 model. Thanks

Moo 03-09-05 07:01 PM

Its just envy at not having the more stylish shape its actually the curvy ones that are slower.

Carsick 03-09-05 07:13 PM

The pointies are slightly more powerful (and I do mean slightly) and have a flatter torque curve (I think)
Other than that, performance wise there's isn't much in it.

elmerfud 03-09-05 07:50 PM

Pointees have approx 5bhp advantage over the curvies, when comparing like 4 like.

Suzuki still advertise the sv @ 70 bhp since it's introduction, but they have gained a little every year.

MCN tested a new one against the new kwak er6, the sv was doing 76bhp at the wheel.

Don't take any of the "curvies are best" - it's flannel! (and envy  )

I've owned both, curvies are nice, but pointees are better......

incoming!

Buy a pointy - Much nicer bikes

lemmings999 03-09-05 09:45 PM

got mine on the 2nd of sept
lovely feeling but frustrating running it in

Ablazze 03-09-05 11:11 PM

curveys may lack a couple of BHP, but as we all know smooth curvey objects cut thru the air much easier & therefore us curvey owners dont need as much power to go faster :P

Thing is though, the power difference is almost entirely from the cams. So £130 and a bit of elbow grease and the carbed motor performs as well as or better than the injected one. I reckon SV carbs, well set up, are just a little better than SV injection at that- not to mention the fact that if it wants tuned, I can do it with a screwdriver and a few £2 jets, as opposed to a PC3 or a pro retune. Then again, injected bikes never carb ice, while some carbed SVs do.

Or to but it a different way- don't worry about it! If you ride a carbed and injected SV back to back you'll be hard pushed to feel any difference. So just look at spec, shape and price to decide which is better for you. I know I'd sooner have my £2500 used curvy, and an extra £1500 for fuel and modding, than a £4000 brand new pointy.

kwak zzr 04-09-05 06:53 PM

i know its only a small thing but i like no choke on the injected version, just hit the button and away you go! my bandits choke used to be a sod either all on or all off.

I'll second that, plus... "carb icing"? But why would you want your bike to run like a dog at the first slight chill??

It's pretty academic as to which is more powerful as the differences are so small that rider skill will easily outdo any slight power difference.

And we all know that the pointy black K4's are the fastest, anyway. So there.

kwak zzr 04-09-05 08:11 PM

na my primer colour one is quickest! <the unpainted one. thats why its called SONIC silver! :D

21QUEST 04-09-05 08:14 PM

I think the pointy may well be slower (seems to be in the real world test). Maybe it's just the owners. Who knows    .

Cheers
Ben

Why not have the best of both

Ran it on the dyno at the weekend, its 99 motor with injection, basically puts out healthy power for a carby bike regardless of temperature.
I've got K3 cams for it so they will go in, but unfortunately its back to carbs as the mod req on the frame spar underneath the throttle bodies is not legal for Minitwins.

Anyone want to buy a conversion kit??
