130MPH+ on a public road!!!

so I was out on my bike this morning when I felt the urge to open her up a bit!
I went charging into fast corners without scrubbing off a lot of speed, I throttled on coming out of the corners and at one point i looked at the speedo to see me doing over 130MPH!

And gues what happened?!?!?!?!

Nothing at all!

No childern hurt,

no cops pulled me over,

no trees hit,

no crashing,

no running wide onto the wrong side of the road,

and no bike sliding away from where it was intended!!!

Just thought i'd post that

Cronos 15-04-06 09:30 AM

Sounds like you've got a faulty speedometer, if it's reading 130mph when you're actually riding within the proscribed speed limits.

kwak zzr 15-04-06 09:45 AM

every now and again, if you get away with it, ITS GREAT IN IT!! i did something similar last nite but cant go into too much detail but the taco was on 10k in 5th. :)

Peter Henry 15-04-06 09:47 AM

Shocking behaviour. Not to be condoned at all! :?

it's your funeral mate, i'm sure every time people open the bikes up they think that none of the above will happen, it's a shame that some of those people are dead or paralysed and probably wish they hadn't.

kwak zzr 15-04-06 11:17 AM

:? i'm sure when a bike is used for its speed and power the rider is aware of the dangers.

Gnan 15-04-06 11:19 AM

no they aren't, or they wouldn't do it - they think they know, and that is the problem

Yeah? Arent you a newbie?

kwak zzr 15-04-06 11:31 AM

ive been riding now for 11years on sports bikes, and i know the dangers.

Itching 2 go 15-04-06 11:49 AM

just because a person is aware of the dangers and chooses still to carry on doing what they were doing does not mean they are not fully aware of the dangers! a fighter pilot is fully aware that they mey get shot down or crash and die yet they still get into the cockpit! airline pilots are fully aware that they could be hijacked and flown into a highly populated biulding yet you see all these planes still flying around. are they piloted by computers and have all the pilots chickened out??

Err.. you're wrong. Perhaps this is the case with you.

YOu will find however that most riders are FULLY aware of the dangers associated with high speed riding, they acknowledge and accept these risks.

I know perfectly well just the dangers associated with riding bikes, period. Lost two mates, doing nothing wrong, both at low speeds, the police and subsequent investigation exhonerated them from any blame.. yet they were killed. I saw one of them die. Not a pretty sight i can assure you. BUt it doesnt slow me down, as neither of the deaths were a "true" surprise... now that doesnt mean i knew they were going to die, but i knew the risks of riding a bike, accepted them, and knew that each time i went out, that even if i rode to the best of my abilities, accidents do still happen and any one of them can result in the injury or death of myself and friends. I accepted that risk, as did every one i rode with, as we all loved riding our motorbikes. The same applies for each and every rider. If they do not know and accept the risks.. they should not be on a motorcycle.

There is a time and a place, and as long as we acknowledge and accept the associated risks.. go for it.

timwilky 15-04-06 12:01 PM

I know it is a Joe thing.

Itchin watch it or you make start getting GYKDs other traits.

I have to agree with your sentiments of personal choice and risk. I was on some roads GYKD would probably know very well between Ingleton and Hawes yesterday and have to admit that my throttle would not turn any further back

gnan, whilst many including myself had criticed peoples actions. I don't think where a rider chooses his speed with due regard for himself and others that he has done anything wrong.

if there were a poll on here that showed the amount of people that speed al least 20mph over the posted limit probably 70% of users would be in that catogory :P

Last Action Pimp 15-04-06 12:30 PM

dam right!!

well done for not killing your self! (yet)

i dont care if people go over the limit or under the limit! its personal choice! (its your choice!! and if you get caught you pay the price!)

i personally dont see the point in having a 200mph bike! when the f#*k can you do 200 mph on the road! (you cant! its pointless!!) i think about the 130-140mph is a good top end speed! pleanty if you are robbing a bank! but slow enough so you dont end up doing 80 in first! passed a school! i know i would if i could but i make the choice not to have a bike that will let me! (and so does the govt!)

BUT 130 mph isnt 20mph over the posted limit, unless ive missed something :? :P

I think the main point is if people speed, its upto them. If they get caught dont bitch about the fine/ban. I don't the road this speed was reached on, and im sure the rider took into account, road conditions weather and whether he could see the road far enough infront so that if anything did happen he could react quickly enough so not to kill/injure himself any bystander or other motorist.

no but I am pointing out that 20mph over the posted limit is no better that 60mph over the posted limit, yet people will be let off for that and banned for 60mph over the limit.

At the end of the day it is down to the person holding the throttle to asses the road/dangers and it is their responsibility for what goes wrong!

Yes regretably there are people that ride bikes drive cars that should never have been given a liscence in the first place. There are also people that ride/drive whilst on a ban! I am not condoning this nor am I saying that I have the right to do 130 and nobody else does, we all have that right!! we are allowed by our government to buy, borrow, rent high powered machinery with no speed restriction fitted.

Some of us feel at ease and use our descresion when riding while other people are truly scared of their own shaddow and as such most likley do not have a lot of confidence and are prone to making mistakes and then having a go at other people who have greater confidence and ability than them selves.

and then you have the 'chav', boy racer, hooligan, out of control people which fall into their own category where there is no descresion and speed all the time while wheelying at 150mph through traffic on the m25 for example or pulling rolling stoppies and sliding the backend out in town. or the tailgaters who try to overtake you on a blind bend with a traffic island in the middle of the road at 345 when school kids are about.

for each and every person there is a set of rules, these rules apply to everyone but some people can and do bend/break these rules when it is safe to do so while there are others that live by the rules and never truely live. while others need to be locked up for the saftey of the world!!!

Nah. If I get caught I'll bitch and moan, because I hate the idea of pre-emptively prosecuting people who do no harm.

GSXR Carlos 15-04-06 01:36 PM

flamin squirell, take that one with you to the arguement thread

Spiderman 15-04-06 01:57 PM

Joe, youre just a bloody hooligan and thats all there is to it!!

Can i be pillion next time, please? Pretty pretty please?

We are all adults and take out own risks. Joe is a competant rider and i'm sure if he'd come to any harm thru this behaviour he would be the first to take it on the chin.

Let he who is without sins cast the first stone. Seeing as its a biblical time of the year

Or.... any of youwho have flamed him for this better have never speeded/undertook/wheelied/brunouted/stoppied/ rode without all your protective gear all the time/ picked your nose etc.
Ok, ignore the nose picking but i'm sure you get my drift.

Do naughty things sometimes when you think its ok, get away with it as you planned it well, brag about it a bit and smile that it all worked out for ya.

Its called enjoying your life!

Or sit at home and wash and polish your bike and tell everyone about how you got it that clean.

I know which i prefer doing

Last Action Pimp 15-04-06 02:05 PM

If i get caught its my fault! its not the coppers, or mr suzuki! its down to me!

i cant stand people who think it is ok to speed! i speed (on private roads  ) and when/if i get caught i will moan (at me for being so stupid) where as some people moan at the copper!!

If you dont speed you cant get caught!! simple!!

But whilst we are at it,today I started my bike without wearing my gloves,am I not just the baddest ass you ever knew? :P :P

Saint Matt 15-04-06 04:22 PM

I rode to my mates in a t shirt, jeans and trainers, ok he lives a few streeta nd it was just laziness lol.

Balky001 15-04-06 04:25 PM

I rode without having my back protector as tight as I would normally have it - does this count as reckless too? Ooh, bad boys stick together

And I still do it, albeit a little more carefully.

I call it stupidity and ignorance

mysteryjimbo 15-04-06 05:25 PM

Its down to personal choice. Just dont do it if you're puttin others at risk. The roads are pretty quiet today.

I refuse to post my top speed in fear of being flamed

Its not big or clever. More a matter of "seeing what it can do" on a quiet bank holiday road

Dicky Ticker 15-04-06 05:58 PM

What is the point of buy a bike capable of speeds nearly twice the legal limits if you don't use it Perhaps the personage would like us all to ride 125's or twist and go 80's

As a matter of interest I cleared the cobwebs out of mine eary this morning and it was 2xplus some on a perfectly clear new dual carriageway with no side roads or any other traffic for a couple of miles

IF YOU WANT TO BE A KILLJOY PLEASE REMEMBER SOME OF THE RIDERS ON THIS FORUM HAVE TOTED UP 100,000'S OF MILES AND THEY MIGHT ,JUST MIGHT
KNOW WHAT THEY ARE DOING

Jelster 15-04-06 06:03 PM

If there no other 3rd parties are endangered, and you are prepared to take the risks, then it's down to the rider, simple as that. Open road in a NSL zone is game on really, just take it on the chin if you get caught.

Joe, I was "in the zone" myself today mate, well done....

Exactly, there are quite a few people on here on ride "Mega Miles" for bikers, i.e. 15k+ a year. (at least 3 times what an "average" bike is expected to do i seem to remeber.) Lots of people have had had advanced training, IAM/RoSPA. And have ridden for more years than they can perhaps remeber...

On the other hand you have people who have been rideing 6months, and just passed there DAS, as the SV is still a bit scarey.

Horses for courses and all that, just something to think about.... Who is safer, an experanced rider at 130 or a new rider at 70?

Dan

Ermm dunno about that tbh, dont you think riding 60mph over the limit you are more likely to kill/injure yourself or others rather than 20mph... i dont see the logic in that statement.

As for

I see what you mean and yes to a certain extent more experienced riders riding at 130mph MAY make better riders rather than those 6 mths into their DAS riding at 70mph, but its the unexpected i am more concerned about. We all know what its like when another vehicle or ****ty pedestrian jumps out when you are least expecting it. Im am not flaming or trying to be a killjoy about riding a bike, hell even i have put my foot down (not to 130mph :P, not on a bike anyway), and yes its FUN and exhilerating to ride a bike fast (thinking or knowing) you are in control. I just think 130mph is a tad over the mark and irresponsible imho, but hey live and let live and as said before if you get caught i hope that whomever takes the punishment on the chin. Just as an end i do think that the prescribed speed limits are a tad slow out of towns, but unfrotunately its not upto me to make those decisions :(

Ride safe y'allll

Scoobs 15-04-06 08:06 PM

It would be rude to NOT max your bike at least once when conditions allow.

Only 130???

ahhh... this was no where near where those fluffy critters can get onto the roads... you have to be STUPID to try those speeds on that road... go much slower than 50mph on that road, and the police may have you for curb crawiling
