Newbie Says Hello and starts of with a crash bung question
 

Hi all,

Brand new user -

Did my DAS in March & have been riding a Honda Rebel since my CBT. Been getting fed up at being burned off by mopeds at traffic lights on the daily commute between work & home so it's time for an upgrade.

Picking up my SV650 s 01 later on today. Hooray!!!! In a stand out from the crowd Yellow.

Now, crash bungs. I need them. Only got short legs and I can see me gonig side ways into a moped at the aforementioned traffic lights. What sor of bungs should I get? Can I fit them? (I've no mechanical experience but I can change a light bulb!). What tools do I need? Cost? Whereabouts on hte bike do they go?

Hi and welcome to the forum, i would go for the r&g ones probably the best ones around the instructions are pretty easy to follow aslong as you have some spanners and a socket set to hand

I've got R & G's on both my bikes. But theres plenty of choice. As for fitting I think its pretty straight forward. I got my dealer to do mine as I didnt want to chance having to use the bungs and then finding I hadnt fitted them properly.

Has anyone tried the offical suzuki ones?

Liz had them on her K5, they are utterly and totally sh*t. The brackets bend / break at the weld and then the bungs fold and dont save your bike from damage.

Actually moved back to Clapham as the local thieving element tried to nick my bike a couple of times.

They did half-inch the battery. Bleeders!

Thames was nice. Saw that whale that made all the news a couple of months back.

When you get your bungs, bring 'em along to Frith Street one Friday evening and there will be lots of people more than happy to help you fit them

Myself, I don;t rate R&G any more. Mine did a pretty bad job in a fairly gentle crash, I've no faith in them. ALso, the replacement parts were expensive. So I use Motosliders, which are pretty much the only crash bungs that the SV Rider forum recommends, they've been tested by known idiots for hundreds of crashes and I've never seen one bad response. Can't say that for R&G unfortunately...

I think enough's been said on the crash bung topic. However, if you're that worried about falling over due to short legs - have you considered lowering the bike? - quite a few people of shorter stature have done so, should be plenty of info in the Tuning & Tweaking section...

I recommend R&G bungs as well, saves the frame from damage.

Hello and welcome! I can strongly suggest R&Gs too, I've road tested them more than once and each time they have protected the frame and body work as intended.

From Clapham, it isn't that far to the Selkent meets either, if you fancy going into the countryside a little bit. :lol:

I have short legs and my r+gs saved my bike from damage on all of my drops, got a big gash in the faiting when I got rear ended though
