Just when I thought things were bound to get worse....
They did.
My car battery is SO dead I can't get the central locking open, to get the bonnet open to get at the battery. :? By 'eck... |
whats wrong with the old fashioned way of putting the key in the hole and turning it

*wonders if Ping will ever grace us with her presence again*
Hey Ping, Cheer up. You could write a country song about it :D If you need a hand, then I'm sure Mac...... .... NO stop right there Lewis!!! |
flog the bloody thing and get a piano like I did - only trouble is I get some funny looks on the A12 8)
|
It IS a stick the key in the lock and turn jobby.
But the central locking is all motor powered, running off the battery. No battery, no power to the locking system, nothing happens when u turn the key. :? I'd go in thru the boot but the boot lock wore out and stopped working ages ago. Going to have to try to break in or have a poke round under the car to see if I can get at the bonnet locking mechanism so I can put in a new battery. |
Have you tried unlocking it - on a Ford that I had, the key still worked, ie unlocked the door, but did not trigger the central locking so it was just the one door that unlocked
Are you with the AA or RAC or anything - they can usually manage to trip the door lock without smashing anything |
I once saw the AA guy get into a car with so little trouble it was shocking.
|
what car do you have ping?
|
The key is the only way to unlock the car (manually in the lock), it's not a remote activation key fob. It'a the motor controlled lock system that can't unlock without the battery.
It's an M reg fiesta. |
Have you tried the key - on Fords it should still unlock the door
|
Yes the key should manually over-ride any electric/electronic mechanism — batteries going flat are common place and peeps would be up in arms if they had to smash their way into their car every time this happened. It might be a bit stiff, but jiggle the key and it should turn eventually, maybe even squirt in some WD40 if the lock mechanism is all bunged up and a little corroded.
. |
Ok tx, will try the wd40 but the key has never opened just the one door.
I occasionally get problems with the locking getting shorted and continually opening and shutting so it has to be timed right just to get into the passenger door and then a good wallop to the inside of the drivers side door near where the lock mechanism is makes it stop. |
|
Just find a local chav, probably get in it in seconds
|
Have you got free windscreen replacement with your insurance cover?
Some policies do a thing whereby your premium or NCB doesn't get affected by windscreen claims. If so - and you have to smash a window - make it the windscreen than claim that it was a big lorry what done it and run away. |
HAH! My downstairs toilet seat just broke...
Looks like Stu got out just in time... What's next? Place your bets.... |

Coming out to meet you lot last night has done me the world of good. :) I woke up this morning strangely calm, without the usual 'I've LOST him' followed by the barrage of tears. I won't go into the details of the adjustments I've made or conclusions I've come to. Who knows, I may slip down that slippery slope again yet...
Right, lets see what I can do. Got dressed, went downstairs and picked up the keys. Tried the boot, that's a lost cause. Tried the driver's door again. Nada. I stood there for a moment thinking. I then went round to the passenger side door a by some little miracle it whined pathetically and unlocked. Now, to try to get some charge in. I went and got my optimate (who knows, bikes and cars both use 12 volt batteries, it may work) and rigged it all up. Just then my neighbour comes out, 'Spot of bother?' 'Yeah, battery's dead'. 'Want a jump start?' We got the car started and I took it out for a run (hoping I didn't get pulled for the state of the tyres). Let's hope it keeps it's charge until I can get it to the tyre place on monday. :) Stay tuned for 'charge or no charge? and 'operation toilet seat'... |
Stick the optimate on it now!!! And leave it on - If the battery is not too far gone then it should bring it back to life, and keep the battery ticking over.
P.S. Don't lock it!!! |

Sounds like you need the Gunfest crew round with the double barrels! |

Have you decided what you're doing on the seat front yet? I personally like the barbed wire option BUT seeing as how you're female and all, I fear the goldfish option may be the way to go :P :D :D |
Well, seeing as I'm selling the place barbed wire will be the clincher...
