I've Been At It again!
Polishing, that is :D
With the forks out for fitting the emulators it gave me a good chance to strip and polish the stanchions. Not as good a job as the professionals would do, I know..............but I don't think they look too bad. I do love doing metal polishing, I find it really satisfying and can quite happily spend hours on it. I polished the brake and gear levers too.:D http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j5...lishing003.jpg http://i76.photobucket.com/albums/j5...lishing004.jpg |
shiny! 8)

Nice job Lissa.
(Mine are in the post, just don't take too long okay? ) . |
They are really shiny. I'm glad you like doing it so much 'cause it's going to be on ongoing chore to keep them looking like that.
|
If I send you mine will you do them for me

I polished the forks on our last SV too, and as I wash and polish the bike after every ride I found that 10 mins with the Solvol was more than enough to keep them looking good once the original polishing job was done  |

Re: I've Been At It again!
Sorry to be thick but could someone point me in the right direction of the grade of wet and dry to strip 'em back with - then is it autosol from there?
Cheers |
Re: I've Been At It again!
When i done mine, i used Nitromors paint stripper, then 800 grit, then 1200 grit wet n dry, some meduim scoth brite, then yes autosol. However, a polishing kit would do a far better job with a drill after you had stripped the lacquer off.

Re: I've Been At It again!
By god that was some grave digging that was.
Read the first post and thought what the hell lol Was seriouslly looking forwards to some ducati polishing pics :( |
Re: I've Been At It again!
cheers viney, I've got a dreml that might have some polishing attatchments actually thinking about it. Is there any alternative to nitromors, like not using it or using normal strippers or thinners?

Re: I've Been At It again!
I think when metal is polised it is relacquered after it is polished to protect the bare metal

no need to bother re laquering once you've polished them. It defeats the object of getting rid of the bad corrosion in the first place. When the laquer starts coming away, and the salt and muck gets up and under it, thats when you get it looking crap...so whats the point, you'd only be chasing your own tail again..much easier to get the autosol out and keep up with the shine;) |
