A friend of mine is entered in a beauty contest, in Thailand

Think of it not as a vote for a friend of mine but a vote for a British person in need!

http://www.ripleysthailand.com/contest/contestants.php

This all looks very U rated and I can't find anything that would offend.

Register and vote, not for me, not for Leah but for your country!

That's a pretty insulting(*) way to refer to another human being. She is married to a woman, he is a fairly normal bloke for a Newcastle supporter.

So why the it? Not trying to have a go, just curious as to why you couldn't find an appropriate pronoun.

Japan is waaay behind in this, the popular vote, Leah is fourth with about 18.6% of the vote.

The real contest is on the 23rd of October and there isn't any photoshop allowed on stage

SV1000s 11-10-06 09:04 PM

Sorry...the 'it' was out of order. I was naughty, sorry.

Could have been worse he could have been a golf nut and she would have had no involvement at all.

It's one of those .org things, you can't say G0LF, you can say topbox, but not G0LF.

Luckypants 11-10-06 11:18 PM

Rubbish you have to say it three times in a row and click your heels together.

philipMac 12-10-06 04:24 AM

Can be tricky though, the whole he she thing.

Like, a person I know (born male) has boobs, dresses like a girl, blah blah, pre-op, and they refer to themselves as him. I actually first met him as a girl, and I thought he was a girl, and like, I dunno, the whole first meeting thing sort of imprinted woman in my head.

Now, he, a trany, corrects me, if I get the wrong pronoun. I sort of like urg...like I am speaking german, and I have to double take to get the gender right.

I dunno. He is sort of annoying though, so he might just be being a ****.

Shrug.

"Its" probably not cool though alright.

Red ones 12-10-06 06:00 AM

Topbox, topbox, topbox.

There, done it.

Kylie 12-10-06 11:58 AM

golf golf golf

Ooh, done it too! :)

Sounds like he's just being difficult. Easy way, boobs, girlish hair and wearing anything remotely feminine, then she, her and Ma'am are just fine. If some metrosexual dude gets upset at being she and Ma'amed all over the place then it's too bad.
I know female-to-male people too and they get the same sh*t, although mostly from women. Whereas male-to-female transgendered folk get more grief from men. It's almost like being acussed of being a gender traitor.

Warthog 12-10-06 07:27 PM

So are the people in this contest actually surgically changed into girls or are they men dressed up as women?

Razor 12-10-06 07:36 PM

The rules say that as long as they were actually born male they can enter. So some of them will have completed gender re-assignment surgery. Looking at them I'd say most of them will have had cosmetic surgery at some time.

Warthog 12-10-06 07:43 PM

So what exactly is being judged then; most like a woman, most attractive to a straight man, prettiest?
