Am bikeless :( (updated)

How unlucky can one person be with bikes! My pride and joy got wrecked last night at my work :(

I parked where I always park (hard to describe but its out the road of the main traffic of the car park) a works van reversed into me knocked my bike over and killed it, it landed on its left hand side. I was in my work at the time and the bike was parked up so thankfully I didnt get hurt (well hurt my back lifting it but thats all) Damage so far is...............

Rear light housing smashed
Grab rail bent
Gear lever bent and very wobbley
Clutch lever snapped
L hand indicator scratched
L hand upper fairing smashed (where the indicator sits)
Rear sub frame knock out of place
Forks beyond repair

Also when I went to start her the start motor would even work! I had to call my break down service to get me home. But I have been wise this time and got a note of all the details called the police and reported it to the insurance company, so tomorrow I am getting a loan of a bike from the insurance company (flip knows what type though!) until mine gets assessed and repaired or told its a write off (got a bad feeling this might happen)

Also the van driver didnt report it and its being treated as a hit and run, managed to find out who was driving because the work keeps a note of who was on shift and what van they were driving. When I found the bike over on its side the van was still there and you could clearly see the marks on my bike were the van had hit into it and left a mark of the vans paint on the bike.

Any CCTV ??

And the van driver needs a kick in the gonads

"But I didn't realise that I hit it...." will be the excuse

I had someone do that where I used to work. My bike was only 6 weeks old at the time, not even had its first service. It was the day before my birthday too. I thought the receptionist was taking the mic when she rang me to say my bike had been knocked over.

A work colleague who was with me when I spoke to the van driver said "I'm surpised you didnt hit him". I replied "Me too....."

The van drivers excuse "Sorry... i didnt see it." It was BRIGHT YELLOW

Sorry was it someone inside your company? Being bikeless sucks, sound like your insurance company are treating you well though.

Re: Am bikeless :(

I have now returned all the forms I had to about the accident to eveyone concerned only to get a phone call on friday morning from one of the soliciters involved. He said the NHS has claimed that no way the van could have hit my bike as it has never parked in the area that I said it was in and it wont even fit in the space in question. Funny I thought as it been parked there more times than I care to remember also I have a photo of the van parked in the space from the evening of the accident, that according to the NHS the van doesnt fit!!! LOL!!! Emailed it off to the guy I spoke to and not heard anything since so I can only take it was a good sign.

Not bikeless though I have a loan of a brand new just out the box suzuki bandit s (650), got that till the claim is settled.

Just read in another post that claims can take between a year to 2 years to get settled:-s

Make sure you record all that because it sounds like the van driver has just been caught in a lie. Courts, solicitors and insurance companies *really* don't like lying. So if they're lying about where they park then it throws their whole defence wide open (and depending upon whom they're lying to, is potentially a far, far more serious crime).

Yeah, lying is evil, I hope you get them for it. It's lucky you have proof!

All I can say is god bless camera phones, one of the best things ever invented! Its might only be a 1mg pixel camera on the phone but the pics came out clear enough to read the registration plate on the van :)

The saga continues!!!!

I got another email today from the guy dealing with my claim that the NHS is now saying that the van couldnt have hit the bike as there is a building in the way, and the steps coming from the building cover a 1/3 of the path, this meaning the van would have hit the steps before hitting me!!!

The steps stick out about 2foot from the building and I parked with the front of my bike level with the start of the building meaning the building gave me no protection at all. So off I went with the camera and got photos of the area and emailed them off tonight. I thought after the last claim that the van couldnt fit in the area and I proved it could meaning they lied that would have been it but they have changed there story yet again, here goes round 2 with the insurance company:smt062

your being very polite...

i would tell them in no uncertain terms they are calling you a baltant liar and a fraudster. and that if they do not come down to survey the are themselves, you will be isntructing a solicitor to act on yoru behalf and they will of course claim all costs in volved when you successfully win the case.

that will **** them up...
