Honda CBR600rr VS. Triumph Daytona 675
Hey everyone,
Well the time has come for me to try something new, and I have narrowed it down between these two bikes. I have about 7 grand to spend, and I have no idea what do go for. I have ridden the CBR600rr and 'my oh my' what a machine, was just about to put a deposit down on it until my friend showed me the picture of the Daytona. Was just wondering what others would choose....and if anyone has had any experience with either of the two bikes? I have always had a soft spot for the cbr, and I can imagine that the build quality would be superior to the triumph, but then again the triumph is a very unique machine, and british 8-) I could also imagine that the honda may be a little too focused for me, I do like to cruise around every now and then...but not very often. Anyway I have loads of pros and cons for both, need help please! Cheers |

Re: Honda CBR600rr VS. Triumph Dayton 675
07 Cbr is actually pretty comfortable for a SS! I prefer the daytona though :) For £7k make sure you get a test drive on the triumph!
|
Re: Honda CBR600rr VS. Triumph Dayton 675
I'm no help at all. I'd have both :D
|
Re: Honda CBR600rr VS. Triumph Dayton 675
I'm really keen on the '07 600RR. Gets a good rating from all the mags, has decent mid range and as said above, is comfortable for a smaller 600 supersport.
I think the Triumph is probably the best looking bike in the class, but I don't think I could ride it for too long at a time. . |
Re: Honda CBR600rr VS. Triumph Dayton 675
If you can, test drive them both. The 675 allegedly has better midrange punch so should be better to ride without the need to push the engine. The CBR however is probably the more comfortable to ride in the real world and has the legendary build quality that the others currently do not meet.
|
Re: Honda CBR600rr VS. Triumph Dayton 675
As much as I don't like CBR's, the Honda would probably be the better choice for long distances, I've ridden two different models and both were pretty comfortable. The 675 always gets labelled as being very focussed, and so it would be best to sit on one and see how comfy it feels from your perspective. Personally though it'd be 675 all the way!
|
Re: Honda CBR600rr VS. Triumph Dayton 675
On looks alone I'd have the Daytona.:smt054 But if I was spending 7K on a brand new bike I'd test ride them to death (pardon the expression:oops:).

Re: Honda CBR600rr VS. Triumph Dayton 675
Bike did a 600's test last month or two months ago. Honda was easy to ride, came out on top. One of the testers remarked that 675 is not just another Japanese 600 and he'd be forever wishing he had one instead if he bought a RR. 675 had a better performance engine, although the mag blew up their long termer 675 last year.
Personal choice really. I myself wouldn't pick the Triumph for a few reasone the main one being it seemed a bit tall for a shortie like me when I sat on it at the NEC. Ain't sat on a RR yet. |
Re: Honda CBR600rr VS. Triumph Dayton 675
There's something odd about that Daytona pic... For one, it's got aftermarket wheels (Carrozzeria?) but what's going on with the front fairing? Mirrors?
I wouldn't have either tbh, but... Well, the Daytona's a bit special, but I expect the Honda would be the better bike. I've read magazine reviews and thus I know :) The 675s I've seen have some shoddy build quality going on, corrosion after under a year, stuff like that. |
Re: Honda CBR600rr VS. Triumph Dayton 675
No mirrors and its missing a screen
|
Re: Honda CBR600rr VS. Triumph Dayton 675
Oh yeah, didn't really notice it wasn't stock, just picked two pictures at random on google. About the rust after 12 months etc, do you know what kind of manufacture warrantee if offered with these bikes, as I'm unable to find anything on the net? I know most of them are about 12months for the body
|
Re: Honda CBR600rr VS. Triumph Dayton 675
The guy at my work with one got Triumph to replace all the corroded fasteners, with new ones which corroded just as fast  So now he's raising another claim. But fair play, he says they did replace every corroded part without arguing.

Re: Honda CBR600rr VS. Triumph Dayton 675
Heart says Triumph but head says Honda.

Re: Honda CBR600rr VS. Triumph Dayton 675
I know a lady. She works for Triumph at Hinkley. Had a 675. Sold it for more than she bought it for due to employee deal. What did she replace it with?
A Gixxer 750 K5 anniversary model. Nuff said? |
Re: Honda CBR600rr VS. Triumph Dayton 675
Does Suzuki have a rust guarantee? reckon i could claim with Suzuki for a rusted 6month old bike? Paint has already started coming off the engine :( - this bike is always kept indoors -

Personally out of those two, I'd be buying the CBR, my dads neighbour had a 675 for a couple of months, he sold it when bits started falling off of it. After 3 wet rides it started going furry as well... after 1500 miles of riding he was very disappointed in the finish and build quality. |

Re: Honda CBR600rr VS. Triumph Dayton 675
i would go for the CBR, the 675 is meant to be very uncomfertable to ride on for longer than 1 min, looking at the seat padding and width i can see why. Combine that with the comments on the build quality. its a no brainer really! IMHO

Re: Honda CBR600rr VS. Triumph Dayton 675
If it's a modicum of comfort you're after, then you'll have to go for the Honda.
I love the idea of the Triumph, especially the 675 triple motor, but when I sat on one at the NEC Bike Show last autumn it was excrutiatingly uncomfortable, with all my weight on my wrists. It has no storage space, either. Even the toolkit has been cut down to about one allen key, apparently, so you'd have to wear a bum bag, or have something on the rear seat or tank, whenever you go out to hold phone, keys, wallet, etc. I'm sure the Honda will have a little storage space on it. |

Re: Honda CBR600rr VS. Triumph Dayton 675
THe 675 is notourious for using a lot of oil.
Have heard of one or two blow ups where people have not kept a check on it. |
Re: Honda CBR600rr VS. Triumph Dayton 675
Personally I,d have the 675 if it wasnt so tall for a shorta##e like me ! I am sure I read somewhere that they were to bring a new model out soon but I cant think where I saw it, sorry, probably mcn, if so disregard.

Got an 04 cbr myself and love it, from all accounts the 07 is even more fantastic, but test ride the two and make your own decision... |
Re: Honda CBR600rr VS. Triumph Dayton 675
As previously stated it is all about the comfort factor, the RR looks comfy and i know the 675 really isnt over long distances, saying that the 675 in red is my dream bike so. . . . still 675 :smt098

Re: Honda CBR600rr VS. Triumph Dayton 675
i do like the lill triumph.

Re: Honda CBR600rr VS. Triumph Dayton 675
675
That is what I was going to get, I had heard about reliability problems but figured as I do low mileage, a lot problems had been sorted by now plus it would be under warranty it wouldn't be an issue for me. This was until I realised I could get a Jap 750 or 1000 for the same money... They are over priced in my opinion, I'd want to see a price drop what with a new model due next year? |
Re: Honda CBR600rr VS. Triumph Dayton 675
based on those two pics, gotta be the 675,,,, how sexy does that look,,, better than a 916 ?!?!?
Anyhoo, the CBR pictured is not the '07 one, and not in its best colour. Put an all black CBR up against that red 675 and its a bit closer, based on looks ony of course !?!?!? My 2 pennies...... if it were my money, 675 if it were a weekend toy, and CBR if it were used for more............ which is why the cbr ((in all black) is on my "next bike" wish list .. |

Re: Honda CBR600rr VS. Triumph Daytona 675
I was thinking of having the CBR in black and red or blue (similiar to the gsxr colours) Or the daytona in red....have always been a bit weary of having a bike just in black, as it makes us even harder to see on the roads...
Thanks for everyone's input, sounds like the daytona is just too unrealiable, a few of my mates have been saying the same thing. Im just going to test ride both of them again, and if the daytona doesn't make an outstanding impression think ill be going with the CBR Cheers |

My 955 is nowhere near as refined as any jap or as good performance as say a gixxer but it has something special, and no, its not an oil leak!:D |

Re: Honda CBR600rr VS. Triumph Daytona 675
Latest issue of Ride mag, there is a comparison of 600's and the 675. CBR wins. They compared on tracks and day to day use. May be worth a peruse.

Re: Honda CBR600rr VS. Triumph Daytona 675
Although I'm a Triumph person the Honda does have better build quality but the main difference is the torque without reving the nuts out of it. If you are like me, a lazy rider then the triple, but if you like to wring its neck the Honda. I am waiting to try the new 675 Speed Triple as it is said to be very comfortable. Before you limit your options just to these two try a ride on the
800 BMW,either sport or tourer With reference to build quality of Triumph,my Sprint ST is 6years old and has no corrosion and 26,000 miles and the only thing that shows wear is the rubbers on the foot pegs |
Re: Honda CBR600rr VS. Triumph Daytona 675
i hope Mr.HRC not see me write this......675 would be my choice just for little sense of excla...excloo...exclues............not everyone got one.
Put race system or can on 675 and make noise no 4 cylinder can ever do That is why buy 675. All other things both very, very good. |

I read (I think in Bike and Ride) that the Triumph drinks oil at an alarming rate and a few machines have gone bang because the oil gets to an engine damaging level before any warning lights come on! If you are thinking about getting one I'd look into this and see if they've sorted it out. I'd love one as they're British, different and the obvious choice (for me) if going from a twin but I'd have to weigh that up against the build quality and reliability and I've read they are very hard to set the suspension just right (Although I've never even touched mine!). I've not seen a single bad word about the Honda on the otherhand apart from it's easy to ride and may be seen as the boring option. When I read easy to ride and boring that says to me it aint gonna throw me off when I least expect it, which if I was gonna spend 7k would be a very good thing! Just my 2ps worth. I've never even ridden anything quicker than my SV! I was drooling at both of them when new. Also, if you are a bit of a fatty don't forget the Triumph is very slim and the Honda is pretty small too. :) |

The pointy SV has quite a bit of space under the seat but it's badly laid out meaning you can't fit much in it. Maybe the same items above but not a set of water proofs. |
