I'm after a new lid any recomendations??
A gash has appeared in my current lid although no one is owning up to being responsible. I know its not wise riding with a damaged helmet and as it was only a cheapy anyway maybe it's time to invest in a new one.
Anyone any recomendations, I've seen the Shark RSR2 in Superbike magazine which I fancy however at £400 that might be a bit dear!! Any advice would be smashin!! :thumright: |
Re: I'm after a new lid any recomendations??
personally i swear by AGV these days, had a bit of an off over the easter weekend, first thing to hit the road was my head, and not even a headache, money well spent in my case so i went out and bought the exact same helmet again the day after me crash, altho that said i wear the AGV GP Pro and its apparently now discontinued??
at the end of the day, go to a decent bike shop and try loads of different brands on till you find one that fits, looks arent always everything if its going to save you like mine did, but try lots on, like for example i dont get on with shoei, must have the wrong shaped head or something!!! |
Re: I'm after a new lid any recomendations??
Arai
|
Re: I'm after a new lid any recomendations??
The one that fits your head best. As above try loads on and buy the one that fits best.
A £50 lid that fits, is going to give you better protection than a £500 Arai that doesnt. Whats your budget ? |
Re: I'm after a new lid any recomendations??
I don't know really! I'd say around the £200 mark as I'd quite like to get a new leather jacket for the summer also!
|
Re: I'm after a new lid any recomendations??
Try on a few, people tend to have a head shape that suits a particular helmet. If you find yourself having a head for arai's, then their condor is a good choice

Re: I'm after a new lid any recomendations??
For that Money, have a look at the Shoei Raid II, got a ride recommended triangle a while back and always gets good reviews.

Re: I'm after a new lid any recomendations??
I bought a Shoei Raid II a couple of months back (approx £200 for plain, £250 for graphics), top quality, & always gets good write ups in the magazines. Plus you get pinlock with it too. This is what I got
http://i132.photobucket.com/albums/q...shoeiraid2.jpg See more here. Try before you buy, as has been said before fit is important (I must have a Shoei head). |
Re: I'm after a new lid any recomendations??
Get one on 0% finance at hein gericke, i brought my Arai Viper GT Web this way and its fantastic. I had to wear my old cheap helmet (nitro) the other day when going in for a service, and i couldn't believe the difference and how the hell did i wear that nitro i don't know, it was like wearing a tin pot on my head compared to the Arai. Go try some on you'll find the perfect one then, and no matter the price if it fits well try and get it i say.. Once you've got a good one you won't go back!!! :thumright:

Re: I'm after a new lid any recomendations??
Don't know about current availability but I got a Shoei X spirit for £300 from Helmet City on the net.
|
Re: I'm after a new lid any recomendations??
I have a shoei xr1000 which was 325 off the net but its very noisy have to wear earplugs over 50mph
its a cracking lid though apart from that, fits my head nicely As you can see goes with my bike :) |
Re: I'm after a new lid any recomendations??
Seems most modern helmets are quite noisy, so just get a taller screen and earplugs!

I don't know if Scorpion helmets are liked in UK; but out here in US they seem to be really catching on; one factor is their pricing as well. I have an EXO-700 Series Scorpion - fiberglass/kevlar matrix shell, fog-free shield, etc..
Heard their new EXO-1000 is even better; with features like air adjustable cheek pads, an internal retractable sun visor. Their website is www.scorpionusa.com |

Re: I'm after a new lid any recomendations??
J&S down here offer a price match so if I find something on the web cheaper they match the price (that's the price plus p&p). I've had some cracking deals, worth a try!

Re: I'm after a new lid any recomendations??
I had an AGV stealth which at the time I though was the best helemt ever until I traded up recently to an AGV ti-tech. Absolutely brilliant helmet - really great fit and just slightly over the 200 mark if you're not picky about graphics:
http://www.harpersraceshop.co.uk/cat8_1.htm As people have said - fit is the most important thing. |
Re: I'm after a new lid any recomendations??
I recommend Arai, partly because they make well-made lids which'll last a long time (my £200 Condor is still wearable after 3 hard years, my £100 HJC's lining compressed so much that it was unwearable after one and a half gentle years) and still be a nice place to put your head. But also because of this:
http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.p...highlight=arai Scorpion also have a great rep in the states, but they're quite hard to find here I think, I looked for one to try when I got my last Arai but couldn't find any so I gave up. |
Re: I'm after a new lid any recomendations??
I went to the BMF last September. I was able to try on lots of different helmets. As soon as I popped on a Shoei Raid II, I knew it was the one. It fitted my head shape perfectly. I knew they have had some very good press, came 1st in a test in Ride magazine. And I only paid £150 for a plain black one.
HJC CL12 are a decent helmet and bargain priced for those on a tight budget. Buy one that fits well and look for other features, like removable linings, anti fog visors, good vents (more is not always better as they can increase noise), quick release visor and low weight, a heavier helmet may cause more neck injuries than a lighter one in an crash. Allways buy brand new......second hand helmets may have a hidden past that may cost you more than you saved. |
Re: I'm after a new lid any recomendations??
I replaced my Arai with a HJC Lordship carbon fibre lid. Both the Arai and HJC fit me well, but Shoei and AGV seem to be the wrong shape.
The HJC is expensive, but worked well in my off. When I landed on my back, my head jerked back and hit the road! Did not realise I had done it until I saw the crack in my lid - the protection was that good. I bought another :D |
Re: I'm after a new lid any recomendations??
well sadly the helmet that most of you liked most cant be found at any local shops only the new 07 model which IMO doesn't look as good
|
Re: I'm after a new lid any recomendations??
Well I can recommend the Shoei Raid II and in some places it can be picked up with Graphics for £200. Mine is comfortable and pretty quiet with good venting. Ive been told ive actually got an Arai head but found the Shoei to be a decent fit, however the pads have bedded in a bit now.

Re: I'm after a new lid any recomendations??
Hi.
My first helmet was an AGV K Series. Very comfortable. Wind noise was very low, it didn't fog up too much. Peripheral vision was bad though and the helmet fouled the shoulder armour in my Shoei jacket making it difficult to do effective shoulder checks. My second helmet is now and Arai Condor. Again a comfortable helmet to wear. Wind noise is terrible though. It is made worse by the vents at the top of the visor. Peripheral vision is much better than the AGV and it did not fould the shoulder armour in my Shoei jacket, although I have chnaged jacket as well now. The Arai fogs up really easily, but it came with a fog insert that works really well. I really wanted a Shoei helmet when I changed from the AGV, but it is true that you have either a Shoei shaped head or an Arai. The Shoei dug into my forehead and my chin touched the front of the helmet, not very comfortable. Tim. |

The old Arai head and Shoei head thing is no more. You obviously didn't try a wide enough range of Shoeis, if you'd tried some other Arais you'd have found they don't fit you either. |

Re: I'm after a new lid any recomendations??
Just got me a new arai astro r from these people for £250. Th plain vipers (for people with shoei heads) are also £250. they have some really good deals on there like buy one shoei and get a free helmet. the bigger discounts are on the arai's. Recommeded shop, they even rang me to say that it would be late (3 days) and that they did not take any money intill it was posted!!

Re: I'm after a new lid any recomendations??
mate I bought Shoei XR1000 from he web. Graphic one, not a plain colour for £200. That's £150 saving on the original price. It's a fantastic lid. I will PM you the web address if you want.

Re: I'm after a new lid any recomendations??
I got a Shoei Raid 2 Ltd Edition (ok probably limited to a couple of million, but it sed it was ltd edition so tuff). Piccy of it to the left. Great helmet, comfy, quiet and pin lock visor is great. I paid £200 for it (should have been £450).
Tryed a couple of Arais but they didn't fit my head shape. |
Re: I'm after a new lid any recomendations??
I dont know if anyone else has tried them but I liked the look of the Airoh TR1 lid. Tried it on and it was the most horrendous fit ive ever seen. Would not fit my face in anyway and there was no padding at all to it
