AR11 How?

Ok I know its 6 months away but how about a group ride down for those that are going?

My thoughts were a main meet up at 12-1pm in Moffat then hug the M74/M6 using A/B roads all the way down. This would take us 3.5-4hrs including fag, pee and cuppa stops.

Route:

I’m planning on doing the route on one of my sunday bimbles in the summer.

Psssst....from Penrith go down the Kirkstone Pass into Windermere, from there take the A5074 and join back up with the A590. Only adds another 10 mile and 15-20 mins and tis much better than the A6

Cheers for that buddy :thumleft:

I kid you not, I've zoomed once to see how the road looks and look what I've found:

Sounds like a cunning plan, Sign me up. I already looked at a route from Gretna to the AR and looked pretty much alike. Kirkstone pass could be a nice detour - weather dependant!

Re: AR11 How?

i had considered going along the Kendal/Windermere road but my plan was to stop off at McDonald's in Penrith for a cuppa and a break then head straight down to the site so as we got there for T time which would allow for people setting up tents etc.etc then getting something to eat before the mayhem of socialising/drinkypoos.

but if people want we could do the detour from Penrith down the Ullswater/Windermere road which would only add about another 10-20mins then thats fine by me, as i would personally prefer that.

my reasoning for hugging the motorways is that if anyone gets board or its pizzing down its just a quick turn off then a blast down to the camp site.

on the day i will be in no hurry (mainly sticking to speed limits) so it will be a leisurely pace all the way. if you prefer just to 'get there' then its probably not for you.

I was going to do a similar route but take the A689 to Alston then the A686 to penrith. Both roads are lovely as I used them on my Cadwell park run and coming down the side of the pennines is wonderful worth the extra wee jaunt. It'd be really nice to do it as a group!!!
