Where is the regulator

Hello

I have a 99 SV650 unfaired. My bike keeps cutting out when i come to dip the clutch after a reasonable run in high revs.

I have noticed the charge rate drops in high revs when the lights are switched on.

Whilst I can find the reg I need - can anyone tell me where it is located on the bike (unfortunately I don't have a manual).

cheers

If you take the seats off, then remove the rear plastics, you will see it on the right hand side of the rear subframe :)

Right hand side under the riders seat cowling. You need to remove both the seat and the plastic cowling.
Have you checked everything over with a multimeter yet?Alternator output needs checking if charge rate is dropping under load.In fact everything needs checking before throwing money at different parts.

cheers, yeah unfortunately had the call of the rac who kindly stuck a multimeter on there - lights off charge is at 13.4v thereabouts - lightons on it decreases with revs - as low as 11v charge rate :-(

Im no expert but I think that might point to low alternator output. When my reg went the charge rate went up to about 18 volts which fries the battery.I would buy a cheap multimeter and test the alternator. There are three yellow wires that go from the alt to the regulator. You test all three against each other---1&2 2&3 3&1 and should get very similar readings across each.I think about 70 volts AC is normal.

If all comes up normal check the lighting circuit for excess power drain. It could be something other than the chargeing stuff.
