Anyone still getting out? Anybody fancy meeting for coffee/tea/cake/lunch somewhere?

I was out a couple of times last week, but looks unlikely this week with the predicted rain / sleet.

However, always on the lookout for a dry day that's above 6 or 7 celsius!

As long as it's reasonably dry I'm ok. I have good base and mid layers to go under the leathers, and a very warm pair of Richa gloves.
It's generally just ice and snow that keeps me off the bike over the winter.

I'm similar: providing there's no risk of ice (i.e. ambient temps above 6ish celsius) and the roads are mostly dry I'm fine.

I don't have any waterproof riding gear as I decided a while back that riding in the rain is no fun for me (did enough of that in my teens and twenties), but there are always enough dry days during the winter months to scratch the itch and get some decent rides in.

Let's keep an eye on the forecasts ...

I tend to take waterproofs with me just in case it starts while I'm out, this being Cymru! The oversuit is great if the temperature drops too much as well, that extra layer keeps me much warmer.

Hugh's unlacquered engine cases and salt do not play well together, so he's tucked away in the garage under a blanket for the next four months or so. When I decide it's time for a change I will definitely make sure his replacement can be used for more of the year!

My old GT380's cases were unlacquered, having being polished by the previous owner. I used to ride on the occasional dry winter day when the roads were salted, and the alloy held up well: any spots that appeared were easily polished off.

I used to paint all the chrome (which the GTs have a LOT of) with ACF-50 in October and leave it until April, it looked awful with the accumulated salt and muck crusted on but was always absolutely fine after the spring wash-off, the ACF did what it said on the tin :)

ACF-50 for me as well. It's what has stopped the curvy from dissolving over the last 12 winters. I'm going to give the bike a quick wash down (it doesn't need any more than that currently as the lovely folk at DC Motorcycles gave it a good clean after fitting the new header for me), and then I shall give it a coating of ACF-50.

Not too surprisingly Triumph no longer use unlacquered cases. Quite a few folk on the Trumpet forum I also frequent moaned about them as (like me) they did not realise they were like that until the first salty road trip. It was bad enough that Triumph did a black cases kit which had all the bits you (or your dealer) needed to swap out to painted ones. The biggest issue is the brushed finish on the unlacquered ones as keeping it looking even is very difficult, hence me taking the easy option and laying the bike up.
