Bonus Payment

The company I work for is suffering currently like most companies.

We made 50 people redundant during October.

It was our year end 30th November, which is always followed by a Bonus and salary review. This year no different the salary review sheets have gone and and come back and most people are getting a 3% increase in salary and no bonus.

There are some cases that are getting a bonus however, such as my boss, after being told out-right that she would receive no bonus from the FD, received the sheet back for us to process in payroll/ HR to find she has a 5% bonus.

She called me and my colleague into a meeting this afternoon and said that she had got down to two choices

1. refuse the bonus on principal
2. except the bonus only on the basis that she can write a cheque for me and my colleague for a third each.

Now i know this seems like a mad thing to ask but do I accept......... the company must feel a reason to not give me a bonus, I'm happy with a pay rise as it continues rather than a one off payment of a bonus.

Both myself and my colleague have told her that we will beat her if she does not except the bonus, but neither of us have given her an answer on the being given a third.

I don't know what to do!

its a hard choice she is trying to right by her team, i have one question tho. If you hadn't seen the sheet showing she was getting a bonus would she have offered you a third?

Take the money Lily

How do they decide who gets what?Is it an open and transparent system or something done in secret by the suits? In most organisations the senior suits look after themselves one way or another and just throw a few scraps to the scum below to keep them quiet.

The review sheets are sent to each regional director who suggest's what they would like to give somebody, these are then approved by the CEO and then they go to the rem co. (a section of the board) for there approval.

We then process everything in time to be paid before christmas.

My darling.......please do me a favour.....take the bonus.

You have worked your a*se off for her over the last 6 months and you and the Mel both helped her deal with the entire redundancy issue. You have worked on weekends and even done trips accross the country for her (she left her USB elsewhere which had sensitive info on it).

You deserve it, unfortunately, for all this work she is the face that the directors etc see, not yours or Mel's. X

Not a very transparent system then? And very open to favouritism and patronage Id guess?????
Id take whatever you can get.

if she turns the money down it will go back into the corporation and no one will benefit.

take the third and be thankful that you seem to have a half decent human being in charge of you.

there are less managers than subordinates, therefore it is cheaper to keep the managers happy and give them a bonus.
