Depends on the bike, how the suspension is set up etc...

Standard pressures are a generic. Not a specific.

Upping the pressure would make everything feel a bit harder; might feel harsher at low speeds, might feel a bit more flighty at higher speeds. Porbably increased "feel", and perhaps reduced grip to to descreased size of contact patch, although this is arguable.

Likewise, if you drop the pressures, the bike feels smoother at low speed, maybe a bit wallowy at high speed, and heavier to turn in. Potentialy more grip from larger contact area but again this depends, since there is more movement in the tyre.

Also, higher pressures make the tyre take longer to heat up, as it flexes less.

Tyre pressures are odd, frinstance I always ran Roadtecs and Stradas at 3psi more than stock front and rear- both tyres had this sort of weird shimmy thing that they'd sometimes do when turning hard, which goes away at higher pressure and gets absolutely horrendous at lower pressures. I dropped them on the advice of an "expert" at a trackday to 30/33 and they were rotten, they felt really disconnected. Put them back up to my normal and went faster. At 36/39 they feel similiar to how Sportecs feel at 33/36, which I think is down to carcass stiffness.

Comparison is everything in tyres, and I can now tell you that a 180 pilot sport, squared off rear at 38psi with a storm ST front at 33, works, but feels absolutely f###ing horrible.

It squirms, drops in, fidgets, wallows and other such nefarious activites.

But it was free, and I can't get a new avon till tomorrow. Such is life :p

Storms fitted and balanced for £195 local National Tyres. (33/36PSI)

Nice to have a deep bit of tread again, just in time for the monsoon we are getting up here the past couple of days.



Definite firmer ride than the Vipers. Hopefully they will get to see a dry country rode before they get squared off!

Take loose wheels in and the guys in the fitting shop next door fit them for a tenner each. That's where I go for my tyres.

That's where I got my stupidly cheap roadtecs too. Stock seems to come and go but the prices are brilliant.

Decided to get a pair of these for the Viffer, because I like Avons as a rule.

£210 ride in / out service at Buckley Tyres

£183 fitted to loose wheels at local tyre place

£145 delivered from RoundandBlack and £5 per wheel fitted at above local place.

Take it to the local tyre place? They do cars mainly but have seen a few bikes there. Any idea if the kit used to fit bike tyres is different to car tyres? Will they wreck my rims?

Got my Storms fitted and have been mighty pleased with the 400 miles so far. The rear looks fat for a 180 so I think it looks trick (for a VFR). Lets see how they perform next 500 miles :D
