Warming Up!

I now have my K3, WOOHOO! I'm loving it, best purchase i've made for a long time. :p
When i collected her the dealer told me not set off until the engine reaches atleast 40 degrees. Which is fine as its only a few minutes.
Is 40 degrees the rule of thumb or should i wait longer or do i not need to wait as long?
Any advice?

Erm seems a little excessive but other people may agree or disagree.

Start it up...helmet on gloves on (about 25/30 degrees )
set off and take it easy, not above 5k till about 60 degrees.

But thats just me.

I start bike, put ear plugs in, helmet and gloves on off I go. Normally around 25 by the time I set off. Rather not have my bike sat idling if I can. Take it easy until I get out the village by that time I am up to temp.

Re: Warming Up!

Do not warm up your bike before riding it, especially if it's new and being run in.
At tickover, (even when raised by choke), the oil pressure is low, the mixtures are rich which risks contaminating the oil, and the warming phase takes longer and does your engine no good. Get some revs on and ride it.

Warming up does is all deficit, no benefit. Start it ride it. Take it easy 'til the motor is hot certainly, but don't let it warm on the stand.

Cheers guys concensus so far seems definately to be, that warming up espcially to 40 is not required.

Squid, shes 2003 (S) so not running in, but will bear that in mind for the future.
