About to build one of these
Haynes Roadster http://www.haynes.co.uk/webapp/wcs/s...0805&langId=-1
Just considering what engine to use, any ideas if I should use a bike engine or should I drop in a light 2.0 Duratec or something? There a re a lot of this type of car with Busa engines;-) |
Re: About to build one of these
£17.99 for a sports car. That's not bad

Re: About to build one of these
LOL, actually the book was free and I already have a donor car for suspension. So I just have to get busy really.

You must have too much time. I wish I had too much time

Re: About to build one of these
Chap at work is building one at the moment, he's having the same engine type dilema. His is Sierra based, he was toying with putting in a Zetec lump but then he had to start thinking about solving problems with the loom and getting the FI to work properly... he's thinking something a little simpler ( i.e. carbs ) would be easier to get up and running.

RX8 wankel engine :D

Re: About to build one of these
Well lets be honest, with dark cold evenings this time of year would you rather be watching tosh on the telly or building a car in the garage a couple of hours each evening. With the bike being used daily to commute I dont feel the need to ride every weekend for thrills. And its friggin cold out there at the mo brrrrr.

Re: About to build one of these
Twin Busa V8s are used successfully in sports car racing, an easy 400hp. If you could stick one busa engine it must be better/lighter than a Sierra engine... unless you get a sierra cosworth!

Re: About to build one of these
Fizz I have been here before and overcome a lot of these issues. Tell your workmate that its not unusual to use bike carbs on a Zetec if you get it right it does work.
I have done the car engines a few times in different applications, twin webers and various throttle bodies. Oh and if his car is Sierra based he should have the five speed box and the Zetec bolts stright onto that bellhousing. That could help his decision. I know Radical use a version of a new V8 developed from a bike based engine or two! But Im not looking to spend that sort of cash. |
Re: About to build one of these
I bought the original Ron Champion book.
There is plenty of info about "locost" kit cars on the web. I'd love to build one, but don't have the time or cash. Also the quality won't be up to a proper kit, but perhaps there is more satisfaction from building from scratch. Good luck! |
