Rear tyre blow out...

At 60mph.

Whilst leant right over.

With a pillion.

Who had never been on a bike before.

And who is my new boss as of yesterday.

Anyone think I should've stayed in bed?!

Fortunately it wasn't a catastrophic failure and I could control it to a safe stop. And my new boss was very cool about it, enjoyed the ride.I have yet to explain just how dangerous it was, don't think I'll bother!

Blimey..! That must have been scary  Any ideas as to what caused the blow-out? Glad you and your pillion were/are safe :)

That sounds scary, well done on a safe outcome though. :smt038

Oh well, next time you take the boss out, do more stoppies to save your back tyre! :smt081

Didn't you do a metzeler track day a week or two ago? Could that have had any effect on the tyres?

Baby's just fine, not much drama, coasted to a halt (was less than a mile to the office and the hole had closed over slightly, slowing the leak, so managed to ride v-e-r-y slowly and park up at the office).

I did, though I didn't really ride much on the centre of the tyre (see photo), mostly on the edges! And I rode the hundred and summat miles back, commuted all week etc etc.

From the photo, I picked up something on this very trip that impaled it, wouldn't've noticed on the straights due to it being forced in to the centre of the tyre as it rolled over it.
On leaning over, I guess the pressure of the road on the centre of the tyre was released & it pinged out, releasing a load of air at once & causing a wobble - "Goodness me!", I thought, "Oh bother!" :---)
As I straightened up, I think the pressure of the road surface helped keep the hole closed long enough for me to come to a halt, check it out, then risk the short trip back to the office.

I realise I was very lucky (as was my new boss, who had a great time, though he's not aware how lucky he really was!).

I'm glad it wasn't the front, though, might've been a little bit more exciting!

Glad to hear she's still ok and you managed to keep rubber side down. Ride safe fella!

get Kev to pay for the new rear tyre - sounds like an open and shut case of his fault ;-)

Agreed.

So far the best quote is £136 fitted (need to truck the bike to the fitters ), awaiting a couple more calls back.

Cheque please, Kev?!

:p
