Bent Banana - The SV resurrection.

Well, most of you know about my crash [flashback] Attachment 2481 Attachment 2480[/flashback] . Well I need to get pro active about restoring my bike to keep my mind settled really. The bike back flipped and did a fair bit of damage to:
  • The forks (bent and cracked) not opting for gixxer ones for insurance reasons. Going to get some replacement standards & do springs n' oil.
  • The front wheel
  • The exhaust downpipe sheered and I need to find a tig welder as I've been told my measly pigeon-**** mig welding is no good.
  • The radiator (already leaky and rusty and fixed with radweld) Is bent in the middle and will need repairing or replacing. BBadger helpfully recommended getting it repaired. Anyone know any good places in S yorkshire?
  • The grabrail crushed (probably breaking where it attatches to)
  • The rear plastics cracked
  • I would like a bellypan and rear hugger & maybe rear seat cowl
  • If the handlebars are ballsed I might have to replace them
  • Switchgears, levers, mirrors and brake reservoir have all twisted and look ****ed.
  • Additionally the bike was leaking oil from an engine bolt on the left side near the base of the front cylinder and also the cylinder heads so I think I could do with a gasket set. Also it was pretty noisy and so while the bikes off the road and cylinders are more accessible am I best checking valve clearances and cam chain tensions?
Thought this thread would make a nice diary (kick up the ****) and a good place to ask for any of the orgers never ending wisdom? I'm equipped with just a sv manual and a reasonably limited selection of tools (but I do have a useful mate). Will I be right in saying a few of you might lend some handy knowledge to me on my quest?

I think I'm doing away with the grab rail as it's not a necessity and I'm going to start with the vital stuff.
Sorry to be an ar$e but aren't those forks really expensive? I thought you'd look to pay £50-£150 for a pair of good standards (I understand they have springs and stuff in though). I'm just waiting on someone to let me know about a donor bike and if that falls through then I'll be doing some serious shopping.

As far as the radiator is concerned, I think theres a place at Rotherham that does them, but I don't know any details about them.

What's the best way of getting at the forks? I take it I'm going to need to raise the bike somehow? :(

Have you considered it may be a lot of money to repair? I'd be inclined to get the insurance money and buy another.. or buying this one back after the pay out and stripping it for good bits and selling or doing it up?

you seem to need a new exhaust system, the downpipe is knackered and would look really crap welded
rad would defo need replacing if bent
it seems you need a front end £120 for a good set of forks for starters and the rest for bars, etc
Engine gasket set £80 at least for a full one
ebay for a wheel £60 at least, dunno off top of head

I bought the bike for £**** with 7k on the clock to be honest. I think it's worth repairing. What do you guys think?

If u have a beam in the garage a bit of rope around the yokes and that will do the trick or get a lend of an under yolk stand or try something on the front cyclinder like maby an axle stand or something etc...

;)
