Another USD thread

I finally got round to fitting the k6 600 front end. Had a few issues with previously used brake lines being too short as this one was a good 15mm or so on the K4 1000 front end I previously had on. Ended up using the radial gsxr master cylinder with a radial > standard adapter kit I bought and the stock tokicos as the r6 calipers don't fit the 310mm discs.. And I'm a dope and got the wrong sized spacers. So I'll stick with this set up, just need to tap the handlebar to secure the brake reservoir, or buy a little adapter that bolts round the bars I've seen on ebay.

Not ridden it yet but can already feel the front end is much softer, god knows what weight springs were put in the K4 1000 forks as they're ultra stuff, I'm 90kg in my birthday suit and with any kind of bumps, it was jarring to say the least. I'm guessing the previous owner was a bit of a lump.

So next up service the forks with new oil and some linear springs for my weight. I was contemplating having maxton do their thing with them, but as the bike doesn't pass ulez rules, it'll be a weekend only bike until either we move or 2020 comes along and I sell it... As ulez will cover the inner part of the North and south circular, meaning I can't use it at all without a £12.50 charge. Which is infuriating to say the least.

Went with the black mudguard as I like the way it balances out the rear fender out as well as the coated upper and lower triple. Might also get the light brackets and bars coated... Although I don't think the chrome look is too garish. I didn't think I'd like the colour of these forks on the bike... But am very pleased, I think they look nicer than the 1000 forks.

Going on holiday on Wednesday so will finish it all up and get some pretentious photos when I'm back.

On a side note, the other front end is for sale on ebay. Happy to come to a deal with a forum member. https://rover.ebay.com/rover/0/0/0?mpre=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.ebay.co.uk%2Fulk%2Fitm%2F 142974244604

Damn, didn't realise how big the photos were going to turn out. I thought it resized them automatically. I'll edit that later!

Thinking about doing the full k-tech kit on mine standard isn't too bad bit plush but still good enough to have a bit of fun.

I'd highly advise you go with Maxton over K-Tech. K-Tech are good, Maxton are superior. Both are pricey.

But yeah, a revalved stock front end will be every bit as good as an USD effort. I just wanted it for the looks and the improved braking.

Did you not rate the 1000 brakes I don't hoon it around but seem to haul it up ok.

They work fine, but they're not quite as progressive and powerful as I've grown accustomed to. They improve massively with a Brembo RCS19, though. So if you've got the budget, I'd recommend one of those for sure.

Corr just looked £200 odd I'll make do with some nice pads definitely going to save up for the suspension though the engine is stonking.

unless your racing all the time k-tech are a waste of money. they are not designed for the road.

you would get better results mixing oil viscosity and shims.

the last thing you want for road use is hard suspension.
