Filling brake system from dry?
 

I'm rebuilding the rear caliper on my project SV as it was in a pretty poor state with a stuck piston. Also got new SRAD 4 pots for the front. I was going to rebuild them too then saw the price of two sets of seals and they suddenly looked OK.;)

I've replaced fluid before but never had to bleed a dry system. I need new bleeding kit anyway so which way would you go? Normal one way valve stuff or syringe it in from the bottom (which I've never tried)?

Any pointers appreciated.

A rubber tube and a spanner.

I was just thinking I couldn't be bothered with all that tightening and slackening of the bleed nipple.

I think I must be getting lazy in my old age - I've had a word with myself.:D

So no more difficult bleeding from dry then? That would be nice. I thought the syringe method's got "face full of brake fluid" written all over it.;)

Rubber tube over the nipple/slightly open and the discharge end of the tube blocked with a bolt and a small slit in the side submerged in brakefluid in a clear jar.Pump away till your heart is content and all air is displaced--------lock off nipple---Simples
No mess,drips,spills or fluid in your eye:)

I got a vacuum bleeder that I hook up to the compressor, works a treat.

attach to bleed nipple, press the nozzle, and crank the nipple.

A couple of pulls on the brake lever and the system is full.

I know you can also get hand operated vacuum pumps. Mityvac I think they are called.

syringe it up from the bottom, easy peasey

open the bleed valves and fill it, as most air will be displaced resultantly
then bleed it as normal. remember that there is two bleeds on the rear

Yes it is a Mityvac and they are pretty good TBH. I think they are about £40 from M and P, but I have used mine loads of times and never had a problem apart from my Aprilia RSVR back brake. (Don't ask)
