Best shock for X reg 650s 95kg

Hi,

I am sure this has been done to death. But I am looking for a shock for my bodyweight to replace the stock one as its knackered.

I weight about 95kg with gear. Will a Zx6r 636 shock be a good one to get.

Also looking at a Nitron R1, M-Shock or a YSS.

I'd prefer to have to do as little fettling as possible, but its not an issue if I do have to.

I'm not looking to spend loads of money if possible.

Cheers

if you plan on keeping the bike for a good few years then get the Nitron. keep the old shock and when you sell the bike swap them back over and sell the Nitron on, they usually hold a good resale value.

if you do buy the Nitron then tell them its for road use.

I used a Kawasaki zx6 shock which was cheap secondhand back then and it was a great improvement on stock. Needed to cut a bit out of the battery box and raise the battery slightly to accommodate the reservoir.

I have the M-Shock and am very happy with it. It was the final part of the transformation in handling after doing the forks.

Is your present shocker at full adjustment ?

When I got my SV it was too bouncy and obviously set for someone much lighter. I just set it up a couple of notches and it's been fine since.

I'm 90kg

HTH :)

Hi,

I bought the YSS in the end because I'm stingy. Seems to be alright definitely better than my stock one.

Ive just noticed this post and wanted to correct a very common misunderstanding.
The standard SV shock only has preload adjustment and this is only to alter the height of the bike when you (and possibly pillion) sit on it. There is no change to bouncyness as the spring and damping stay exactly the same because all youre doing is changing the position of the damping piston within the shock.
This is useful because with the bike loaded you dont want the piston to sit too close to one end or the other of its travel as it could bottom out when subject to a large bump. Another way to avoid this would be to change the spring to one that puts the piston in the right position for the load but of course this means changing it everytime you take a pillion or eat too many pies! Bouncyness can only be changed by altering the damping of the shock....
