Re: Gm10
personally i dont like Applecross much.
i'm going to go out on a limb here but how about Bettyhill, i can vouch for the hotel being good. |
Re: Gm10
The very concept of the GM was to get all those people that go to the AR up to see Scotland.
Don't know why it's no longer attracting people, but the heyday of 50-60 people at a GM and 100 plus at an AR died when people started expecting a package tour and bitching at the organisers when they didnt get it, and since then has never recovered. The GM is dead. Long live the "Annual SVEcosse members only weekend rideout". Stick it wherever you like as Alan says I don't think it matters anymore, which is a shame but that's the way it is. Of course everybody is welcome, of course they are, but there is no point making it Cornwall friendly when nobody comes further than Little Old Man. Having said that if LOM can't make Applecross/Bettyhill we should definitely have a rethink, he owes me a beer. |
Re: Gm10
I've said every year that I must get to Scotland. Last summer I got as far as the Lake District so from Essex that's progress. Your GM is like the Southern softy equivalent of TOGMIE. If someone is happy to go to the trouble of organising it and welcomes people along from near and far then orgers should just be grateful for the effort, turn up if they wish, be that from 30 or 300 miles away, and be glad they didn't have to do all the sorting out themselves.
At TOGMIE I take cake if I have time to bake, I do a fish and chip shop run each night if I have the energy, I even ride my motorcycle if I haven't suffered a bizarre cricket photography injury that week. If I were to come to someone else's ride I'd expect no more than someone telling me and when. I have often found those least willing to organise anything themselves are the ones most likely to moan about what's been arranged for them. Anyway, I must get to Scotland at some point! |

Set off on the on the Friday night after work, ride non stop through the night, and you'll just get there in time to start the rideout on the Saturday morning. With 666 ahead of you just ride faster than the grim reaper, but slower than your guardian angel. ;) |
