Dashboard turn signal light always on, turns off when clutch is in

So here is an interesting one...

Sv650s K5 model

My right turn signal light on the dashboard is constantly on the 'low' setting (when you turn the signal on it still pulses high and low).

If you pull the clutch in, it turns off.

Any guesses how pulling the clutch in could affect dashboard indicator lights?

I'd guess at a short or a poor earth somewhere.

Have you got LED indicators? I think it is because the load is so low

I have indeed. Came on the bike and I hate them because they are too dim to be seen in direct sunlight.

Only thing that's stopped me changing them is my bikes wiring is a little temperamental with loose connections. Previously had an issue with my sidestand switch relay tripping and making the bike cut out while I was riding it (Happened on an entry slip road to a motorway...)

Seems like a good reason to put stock ones on and sort out the bad connections :)

I'd second Darren here. Just go through all the connectors, clean them and treat them with ACF50 (hey, I've beaten RiffRaff to it there!).
While you're at it make sure your sidestand pivot is clean and greased so that the stand folds up properly. Some while back I let mine get a bit mucky and when I went over a bump, it was enough to jar it down a little but it was too stiff to fold itself back, and the sidestand switch then operated to cut the engine. A new return spring, pivot bolt, and some grease sorted it out.

Recently cleaned up my sidestand mainly because it was so gunked up it wouldn't flick up by itself.

The issue I had was with the wire going from the sidestand into the relay box. the wire just came out of the box and it's impossible to properly put it back in because the 'clamp' for the wire was already crimped down...

Use the bike for commuting so can't risk messing with it now but once I put it away for winter might end up just totally rewiring that relay box. Previous owner made a total mess of the electrics on this bike, bits of loose electrical tape everywhere...

Wiring looms are about £50 on fleabay. Might be worth the investment?

Isn't replacing the loom a PITA?
