O or X ring

I'm going to have to replace the chain on my naked K7 very soon as I've developed a tight spot and was wondering of any advantage of spending extra wonga and getting an X ring chain instead of the standard O ring. Also just changed front sprocket for a 16 tooth to drop engine revs while cruising on motorway, any thoughts on dropping a tooth on rear sprocket so it would be the same as a sport or would I lose too much acceleration, mainly motorway miles that I ride (approx 250 miles a week).
Any words of wisdom will be greatly appreciated.

one tooth extra on the front sprocket should raise theoretical top speed by about 7mph, making the bike rev less for the same cruising speed on the motorway but sacrificing some acceleration.

one tooth extra on the rear sprocket should lower the theoretical top speed by about 3mph, making the bike rev more for the same cruising speed.

I would probably do what you have done and only add one tooth to the front sprocket, but push the rear wheel right forward so that the chain will fit given the extra tooth. If the chain will not fit then go for one less tooth on the rear sprocket. This will raise the gearing further still, but you should then be able to use the original chain without any worries. The only thing to worry about is how well the engine will pull if you increase the gearing this much.

I plan on doing this when the chain is replaced this winter. Let me know how you get on.

Re: O or X ring

Think I'll stick with the standard size sprocket on the rear as I'm happy with the gearing now, but I will try the X ring chain as original chain has only managed 14k (just fitted a scottoiler.............bit late me thinks).
