Recommended Bike Shops etc in the EAR Area.

Think we should have a sticky thread on this subject so that the good folks from EAR can recommend places to get their bikes fixed or serviced locally. But only if you've actually used them. Perhaps could we have one of them there map thingys to find them easier at a glance in your area.

For me I use Carl Harrison over at Harleston. He specializes in Ducati but will work on anything. He really knows his stuff and won't rip you off. Nice bloke too. 01379 852020

Wrentham Bike Shed just outside Beccles. Top bloke, proper back street bike garage and well priced. He was more than happy to show me stuff as he'd done it and I'd use him again on the bigger stuff that I can't do at home.

Also Hammond Tyres in Halesworth. Had my Roadsmarts fitted there towards the end of last year. Great service, I could watch the process and they were happy for me to do so so I knew they were being careful. Good price too on the ride-in-ride-out service.

Big +1 on these guys - I have used them for the whole 6 years I have been riding for my road tyres - not sure whether Keith will want to be touching my spoked wheels on the DRZ though!

Re: Recommended Bike Shops etc in the EAR Area.

I remembered you saying they were good Skip, that's why I gave them a try. I'll be going back to them when I need to, although, the Roadsmarts are still looking good after over 6 months riding. But that's a whole other thread.

Well from now on I'll definitely be putting any work by way of 'Bikes n Trikes n stuff' in Peterborough - great guys, proper bikers, and sensible rates.
I hate places that try to hard sell, or call me madam, or alternativly treat me like a thick girlie, make me really uncomfortable.
The guy here looked at my bike and said 'I hate ****ing imports' - top bloke :p

Hi james,

Bikes 'n' Trikes are at the end of the small road that Wheels (Taz) are on. A really friendly bunch and genuinely into their bikes. Would definitely recommend :-)

Where abouts are you?

Had a new tyre fitted at HMT on Vulcan Road in Norwich yesterday - they specialise in motorcycle tyres and had a large clean workshop and about a dozen bikes that were waiting for or had already had new tyres fitted. Swapped the DRZ tyre in less than 20 minutes and was under my watchful eye the whole time - even torqued up the axle nut properly (something you don't always see!)

Snap! I was there at 7:20am yesterday to get my PR3's fitted before work...handy that they open at 7am

I watched the 2 chaps do their thing, very capable and no fuss!

Mototech here in Beccles.
He's a top bloke and has kept his business going even though his current kidney transplant has failed, meaning he has to go for dialysis three times a week, and he had menengitis and was in hospital for several months! He works every day that he isn't at the hospital and is currently hoping to move to the old CJ Ball site in Hales. He is always very busy and I can see why from the quality of his work, that's why he needs the larger premesis. He's got all the gear to do tyre changes right up to a complete rebuild, and his hourly rate is only £35. His site lists his set servicing prices - a big valve check service (plus he checks everything on the bike) is only £325.

Russel motors in Clapham Junction, South London. http://www.russellmotors.co.uk/index.html

Ordered a specific front tyre. They called back next day with the tyre. Arranged a ride in ride out fitting for 1pm that day. Done in 45 minutes and a coffee later. £90.

They do MOT's, servicing etc. Nice people too. :smt023

Just had my bike MOT'd at ABC Motorcycles on Dereham Road in Norwich. Although no actual work was done to the bike the owner Andy was very friendly and complimentary about the bike - no hesitation in recommending them on the basis of what I saw :)

Helicoil Fixes And Seized Bolt/Nut Removal

I managed to strip my oil tank plug thread on my SM-T at the weekend, there was a slight cross thread done months and months ago I guess and even through I was very careful this time around it stripped when I was tightening tight with a torque wrench.

I rung around and asked some people in the business and got supplied with details for a guy who solely does helicoil fixes and the removing of seized bolts etc for all the garages in the area (Delmonte / Robinsons etc etc). Alex is his name, mobile #: 07776 145 373

Turned out to be a great guy, I rang him Saturday morning and explained what I'd done and it turns out he is into classic bikes as a hobby :) I rang him back a little later to ask him when he could fit me in now that I had the oil tank off the bike and he said come straight over...15 minutes later and I had one perfectly fitted helicoil for £15 that in all reality is 10 times better than the cheese thread that was there before!

He can travel too like he does with the garages, so if you have an engine block issue that can only be fixed on site he can do that too, he has all the gear...this is what he does all day every day for work so he ain't gonna get it wrong!!

His business card is attached, couldn't recommend him enough to get you out of a bind!

Anyone who is looking for fitted tyres in the Norwich area that is happy to bring in their wheels loose check out Havers Tyres (off Drayton Road), they did me a great deal on my Rocket's 240 Avon Cobra back tyre....£164 fitted....Lings Watton wanted £215 (£40 additional charge for Rocket) and even HMT (an old favourite before management change) wanted £188 after major haggling!
