Pennine Massive ride up to GM3 discussion thread

I've noticed there's a few of our lot discussing how they're gonna get upto the GM campsite - thought it might be a wise idea to start a dedicated thread unless there's one already and I am infact a dunce...

Spoke to Ricky (Far_Too_Lucky) outside morrisons in York yesterday and he was asking who he could ride up with - so what's the plan so far dudes?

Aaaaarrrgghhhh!

I've got 3 days to get all the kit together before holidays, then back early hours on Friday 25th.

Will, hopefully, be loading up and leaving by 11:00am. M'bro to Darlington then up the A68(may do A1 for speed if I'm running too late) to Edinburgh. From there to Stirling, Callander.

Hope to be pitched up and with beer in hand by 5:00pm.

Its quite easy. Plan route on googlefu maps, pack up bike, get on it and ride. :p
I planned all my route up last year and was all set to ride up on my own, but SpeedyClaire was insistent she wasn't going to let me, so rode up with her and Badger et al instead, which was very pleasant, if only to know I should have done massive wheelies through speed cams, as my sleeping back in the cargo net had fallen over my reg plate:eek:

In fact its so easy to get there I could do it in the car straight after passing a test(if only there was a cancellation available earlier).

Crack on peeps, go enjoy yourselves.

Looks direct enough, that maps just reminded me the pain I felt when I realised Gretna wasn't bang next to Glencoe like I thought it was on the way up last year.
Damn geography :-({|=

Coolio, so where do you fancy meeting?

dizzyblonde 14-06-10 03:51 PM

Re: Pennine Massive ride up to GM3 discussion thread

I'll give you a tip, cut off just before Glasgow, and go via Stirling and Callander, much better ride via there, and you don't have to deal with Glasssgeee. So yeah its another 20 mins on your journey, but it'll be more pleasant.
M74,M73, M80, A84, A55.

IN fact its 3 miles difference in route!

Re: Pennine Massive ride up to GM3 discussion thread

as me and dani girl are gonna be stopping in scotland for a few days after the GM she's prolly gonna take my audi along as a support vehicle - but she doesn't know where she's going.

Gonna prolly go from york up the A1/A1M to the a66 and then cut across to penrith and latch onto andybrads route from there - saves us doing a world tour of west yorkshire and lancashire for the sake of it.

Me & her will prolly make our own ways' as far as gretna or similar services in scotland and then link up and find the GM campsite together from there.

Sorry guys, you're all on your own for this one  one of you's gonna have to take a satnav

AndyBrad 15-06-10 11:45 AM

Re: Pennine Massive ride up to GM3 discussion thread

paul,

im relying on dave numbers and his sat nav :) Although im hoping tonys could join us as he has a good sense of direction and could probably get us there by smell alone...

dizzyblonde 15-06-10 12:21 PM

Re: Pennine Massive ride up to GM3 discussion thread

if you can't find your way up there after two routes have been posted....I shall call you all ghey...specially if I can get there without the aid of a spacnav, ya bunch o wusses!

Paul the 6th 15-06-10 12:25 PM

Re: Pennine Massive ride up to GM3 discussion thread

I'll be fine :) got my biological compass and ray mears survival skills to help me navigate anywhere in europe

just need to make sure dani doesn't disappear with my audi on the way to GM via ipswich or bicester... I'll have a chat with her and report back when we've formed a game plan

dizzyblonde 15-06-10 12:28 PM

Re: Pennine Massive ride up to GM3 discussion thread

Just get her to follow either Andys or my route, and jot down in fat pen marker on A4 sheet, , exactly which junctions she needs to turn off at, stick on steering wheel or in that overhead thingy and job jobbed, she reallly can't get lost...unless of course she likes your car and purposely does it just to scare ya ;-)

Dave20046 15-06-10 12:28 PM

Re: Pennine Massive ride up to GM3 discussion thread

no shame, spaknav all the way.even with shatnav at the ready follow me at your own risk!

yeah that be it.....perhaps I should really brush up these so called show and tell questions for my driving test:rolleyes:

Its a bit like this morning on my lesson,
'' What do you do to tell if you're brakes are working before setting off somewhere??''

'eeerrrr stick yer foot on the pedal and see if it works?'
'A little more info than that is required' he said!

Re: Pennine Massive ride up to GM3 discussion thread

Was good for us - I'm sore from standing around all weekend, but I think we pulled in 11 new and renewal memberships and sold about 15 tickets to the summer events.

Just need to keep an eye on the pennies at the moment, so I'm not sure whether I'm going to make it up as it stands.

http://www.farmyardparty.com/en/farmyard/a6240 - weekend do at Helmsley for you and and a hell of a lot of your new best friends ;)

25th anniversary next year, so I'm sure they're already planning something huge.

Malarki: sorry about your wait - you should have persuaded your mate to join, and we'd have left him alone then :p
