Best roads / routes

Hi guys,

Post your favourite roads / routes here. Keep it on-topic :-)

For a quick 20 Minute Run coming from Egham or off the A30 (Handy when testing from South West Suzi or Jack Lilleys):

From Virginia Water - head towards Chobham (along the speedy straight) - Left at the second Roundabout (go round them both a few times) - towards Chobham - First Left and then back towards Longcross (B386) Turn Left anywhere there back to Virginia Water and home.

For a Little Longer:

We mentioned the Pirbright Twisties - Head down the A30 - take the B3015 exit after Bagshot towards Deepcut - follow it all the way down over the single lane bridge and then left on to the B3012 towards Pirbright. Turn right just after the railway bridge... a nice twisty road around the hill onto Frimley Road.

EDIT: Add on Bourley Road which runs off the A325 out of Farnborough (is only 40mph... but fun  ). You can link through from Frimley Road above, onto the A3011 around the massive right hand bend linked by roundabouts (so can be a massive left hand bend too :smt003 ) - go left past Infinity and take the second roundabout left onto the A325.

How about this...

Begin Petworth A272 heading East towards Wisborough Green a niiice long straight to warm you up, and fun all the way to Wis. Grn slow down to legal on the hill at speed control marks quick! Gaffers like to wait there (seen them twice)...legalish  all the way to Billingshurst get through there staying on A272 then kick it again between junctions(quite away apart) up to A24 hang a right there to washington roundabout turn left A283 and kick it again heading towards brighton A27 junction left onto A27(Brighton) and kick it... Exit onto A23 North(London) Exit A272 west kick it upto A24 now you have a choice...1.pull up have a Mac's on otherside of lights 2. Head back down a mad A272 and hang a leftat A29 and goto Bury Hill for a bit o' showboating then back through Fittleworth onto Petworth or What we tend to do is hang a right and head for a bit o' fun at Box Hill! Mmmm choices, choices and the Old Bill only seem to appear at Box Hill maybe I'm lucky  anyway enjoy the ride

My favourite ride out is from box hill, take the A25 west towards Guildford, turn left onto the b2126, right on the b2127, then follow it onto the b2128. All three of these are lovely little twisties that take you through some great countryside.

That takes you up to godalming, then take the a3100 south to Milford, then take either the a286 or 283 south towards Chichester: Doesn't matter which, they're both lovely fast sweepers and whichever you take south, you take the other one on the return journey anyway.

I sometimes take a slight detour at the A272 to go see me muvva in Bishops Waltham, if not I just head towards chichester, then turn around and take whichever of the 283 or 286 i didn't take coming down. great for a sunday thrash! Good pubs for food on the way too, and if you wanna take a detour to Brighton, it's only a couple of miles. I'm getting the hunger now....

Here are some rides within the general vicinity that were in a freebie booklet I got last year.

I've not actually tried any of them yet, but I thought this was a good place to post them:

Here's another route via Fox's Diner. Start at the lay by on the A355 (Slough) to the A413, onto the 329/4074 to Fox's. Back via Goring, the A329, A33 and 272 making your way back to Boxhill.

I've done it a bit at a time but never got round to doing the whole thing. Must put that on the list of to do's.

That looks like a good day out - takes in a lot of the best roads in the area (excluding the Pirbright twisties) . Breakfast at Foxs - late lunch at Boxhill. Nice one. The only one I havent tried is that link from Reading to Basingstoke.

For those of you that joined my little last minute ride-out last year it was exactly the Hampshire Heaven route. Quite a lot of posted 50's but a nice ride anyway. However when you get to Alton, carry on to Midhurst etc and it all gets a lot more exciting.

Almost light enough late enough to get some evening rides in :)

Time to see some mid-week meets in here.

Can we keep this thread on topic and just post up the routes, so people looking for routes don't have to scroll through pages of conversation.

Cheers.

One of my personal fave's is: A272 at Percy Hobbs roundabout near Winchester, heading towards Petersfield and through the otherside to Midhurst. Then take the A286 down to Chichester, then out west onto the A27...stay on the A27 (dont join M27) and ride along past Portsmouth, Portchester and Fareham and join the A32 towards Alton. Sometimes I would carry on riding up to join the A272 west again and head across to the A2090 towards Romsey...but a friend of mine sayes to leave A32 at Droxford heading straight towards the B3035 (bishops waltham to corehampton road), take a left and head to Morestead and then Winchester.

I also like the A31 from Southampton down to the A35 to Dorchester, then up the A352 to Sherborne, then the A30 through Shaftesbury and over into Salisbury and the A36 back to Southampton (although fairly short route, is best interrupted with a stop at a pub for a meal.

If you ever get the chance to ride North or need to get to Northampton take the A413. Its a great road: Map North

Thinking of taking a ride to the coast this weekend, it will be my first "long Ride" (only been as far as Redhill so far). I live just off J11 of M25 and was wondering if anyone had any suggested routes down to the south coast that i can have a bit of fun on and brush up on some skills????

This isn't bad, a good mix, especially the A285. Not convinced the link will work though

Re: Best roads / routes

When i had my bike i always went down this lane. It is very popular with the police bike safe as the road has on and off camber turns with differing inclines and declines and some tight turns and fast sweeping turns (bit of everything really). It's not a ride out as such but you could add a few laps of the lane onto a ride out for a change.

My best route is from Havant to Weymouth start by going over portsdown hill to fareham, onto M27 / A31 until I get to Affpuddle then take the old road to Preston stay the weekend in my static caravan, find some new routes around the area then come home. Best still the wife takes the car.. she has never been on the bike :)
