Re: Right hand side fairing bolt help!
Is the thread damaged?
If not i'd clean the bolt hole and lube it with some copper grease and try again. Other than that, replace the bolt. Good luck |
Re: Right hand side fairing bolt help!
You may have cross threaded the bolt or the mounting hole.
These have to be torqued up so be carfull when threading them, if it is cross threaded you may have to re-tap the thread. |
Re: Right hand side fairing bolt help!
Doesnt look like the thread is damaged plus i tried 3 different bolts the bolts from the fairing fitting kit the original bolt plus the bolt from the crash bung. Im thinking it may be damaged from inside but i cant really see/tell.

Re: Right hand side fairing bolt help!
I'm guessing but re-tapping is probably the answer. My fairings were an absolute sod to fit especially the rad bracket. I scrounged a re-tapping tool off a mate who does car repairs and problem solved.

Re: Right hand side fairing bolt help!
Is re-tapping an easy job then?

Re: Right hand side fairing bolt help!
It is with the right tools, You'd need to work out the diamitor of the thread & match it with a tap, I think it will be an 6 or 8mm but check to be sure.
once you have the right size tap, WD40 the tap, try and make it as straight as possible otherwise you'll be screwing into the thread wrong. 2 turns in and half back each time, (this will pull out any cut metal) be paitent and it will thread. To get at where it is, you may need a long neck tap (may require you to buy a set) Which can cost anywhere between £30 & £100 for a decent set. (you will need it again sometime in the future). |

Re: Right hand side fairing bolt help!
Not recommended.
If you worried about doing the retaps get someone to do it. Have seen too many heart in mouth moments (inc my own) as a taps slipped |
