Fuel level sensor testing?
Hi all
How would I go about testing this? The fuel light comes on when ignition is turned on so it's not the bulb. I can't even remember what order it goes, flashing first or solid first, and how much fuel this indicates is left? I remember vaguely running out of fuel on the motorway due to it not working, and always played it very safe since! Would be nice to know for sure though, I have to give it all full tank every time just so I know to fill up before 150 miles. Sent from my GT-I9505 using Tapatalk |
Re: Fuel level sensor testing
The simplest way is to empty the tank. The lights take a little while to come on properly, a few seconds rather than being instant, but if the tank is empty you should get a solid light. Put about 2L back in and you should get into flashing light territory, another 2L or so should have the light go out.

Re: Fuel level sensor testing?
I don't worry about the lights, just start looking for the next filling station once I have done 100 miles, reset the trip meter and worry in another 100 miles. Only exception being if I know there isn't going to be any for a 100 miles, then I brim out before I start.

To test it, I'd do what Jambo suggested. For general riding I do what timwilky said (knowing that i still have 20-30miles still in the tank to find a petrol station once the trip meter reads 100)
