My RGV 250 Rebuild
Thought I would post some pics of my little project:
What it looked like when I picked it up. 4000 miles. Registered in 1995. It had been stood in a farmers garage for the last 5 years in a giant vacuum bag. (The sort you use your hoover to suck air out of). Someone told me he wanted rid while I was at Sherburn, so I paid him a visit with cash in hand and he accepted my offer. I rode it home and it goes like sh!t through a goose. I decided to rebuild it after reading posts o nthe RGV forum. http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u...1234/RGVR1.jpg http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u...amera247-1.jpg http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u...amera248-1.jpg http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u...amera249-1.jpg http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u...amera250-1.jpg http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u...amera251-1.jpg http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u...sCamera244.jpg http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u...sCamera243.jpg http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u...sCamera242.jpg Here's the wheels back from the engineering firm who had to drill out every caliper bolt. http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u...amera252-1.jpg http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u...sCamera246.jpg http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u...sCamera248.jpg Actual mileage 5076 at the time of the strip down. http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u...4/Bike2015.jpg |
Re: My RGV 250 Rebuild
Very nice! I would love an RGV to re-build but i seem to be wanting to do too much without the mullah!
How far you going with the rebuild? |
Re: My RGV 250 Rebuild
£400 worth of billet power valves. Anyone who has had an RGV knows why these are soooooo important.

Love the rebuild, has it been completed now then? |
Re: My RGV 250 Rebuild
Then disaster. My 2 year old son taking his John Deere tractor for a spin rams into the bike and knocks it off the abba stand, casuing a great big scratch on the frame when it fell.
Looks like the frame is getting powder coated as well now. Minutes before disaster. http://i171.photobucket.com/albums/u...4/100_0642.jpg |
Re: My RGV 250 Rebuild
To date. I haven't touched the bike since April as I have been pre-occupied with the SV and a new baby.
All the plastics are back in the full lucky strike scheme and they look amazing. I have hid them in the loft away from tractor boy. I paid £1800 for the bike, and so far I have spent well in excess of £3000 on parts and powder coating etc. Every nut bolt etc is being replaced. I am putting off the next bit because it is an the engine drop. I have all the bits to rebuild the engine such as pistons, new heads, billet power valves. Trouble is finding time now! |
