Which boots?

With my 18th birthday fast approaching my dad said he would buy me some boots (fed up of riding in what are effectively walking boots).

So what do you guys recommend? I am thinking up to the 140 pound mark.

So far im liking the looks of the sidi black rain evos and the alpinestars smx4. But im not sure how important waterproofing will be to me (as i have only ridden one winter on my little 125). This is probably a silly question but will all boots have enough room to allow leathers to be worn inside them? (planning for the future).

Cheers, Jamie

Have a look in the boots section below.;)
FWIW living in Cornwall I would think waterproof is essential.:p

I'd definately be looking for waterproofing. even if not essential, If I was caught out in the rain i'd rather have dry feet than wet.

Also no matter what anyone says go and try several different pairs on. The difference in fit between brands is quite vast. I bought a cheapish (£80) pair of Oxtars from the BMF show, because of everything I tried on they were the most comfortable, were waterproof and looked pretty good. I was going to get some Sidis or alpinestars but was just sold on the Oxtars because they felt just right.

Hiya mate - whereabouts in Cornwall are you? Im in Looe.

I got a pair of Sidi's from GT in St Austell - they have the Sidi and Spidi's XPD range there - you could go and try them on for fit?

I just got a pair of SMX-4s, but the waterproof version is about £20 extra.

To be honest, you're probably in for a bit of a shock if you swap well worn in leather boots for plastic-clad bike boots. I know I was ;)

Look on ebay for Oxtar Sports TCS Goretex.

Like these ones

The good thing about them is they are CE approved as safety equipment for professional motorcyclists, which is something boots costing 4 times the price aren't, plus they are leather, not cheap and nasty Lorica. I love mine, had them a month or so and done about 1000 miles in them, and they're proper comfy and waterproof, like every review said they would be.

I've been using Sidi Black Rain Evos for the last four years, I use them all year round and they are comfortable & waterproof. I will buy another pair when my current pair wear out (which they don't look like doing any time soon).

My summer trousers (not leather) fit inside them fine, for wet riding my winter trousers fit over them (otherwise rain drips into the boots).

I live in Liskeard.
I went into J&S in Plmyouth today to try some on and the sidi fitted nicely so i think i will probably go for them as they are waterproof. Thanks for the advice guys.

Sidi zips break - just a warning.

Re: Which boots?

sidi black rain has excellent feedback. I wear the smx-4 boots - the none gore-tex ones, and they're not waterproof at all. All motorcycle boots - bar some dainese, will be able to fit leathers underneath.
