Help, I've screwed up the bottom shock bolt

So there I was happily installing my new Nitron. With a quick phone call to Bib to work out how on earth to get the old shock out of the bike, in goes the Nitron.

See this pic:

There's about 1.5mm play on the bottom bolt - I think the washer you see (one on the other side as well) was supposed to go on the inside?

Anyhow, was ratcheting up, and after a while (lol) I notice its not getting any tighter. Have a gander and the bolt is just spinning in the nut, not going past flush. There was very little resistence while doing it up so I dont think I threaded it, although the evidence certainly suggests it is.

So, its in, definately nowhere near torque, but I can undo the bloody thing.

Any ideas? This is really hard to do as just one person as well, need a second pair of eyes / hands.

Dont suppose any of the Essex / Soho lot fancy giving me a hand in return of sexual favours? I'm right stuck on this one and dying inside, I wanted to test ride it tonight :(

yes your a clever boy and have cross threaded the nut which will have burgerd the nut and bolt. only way to tell is taking the nut back off and checking the threads on the bolt/nut.

ooohhh and to get the bolt out if the nut wont undo, get a philips screwdriver and place screwdriver on end of bolt at the nut end then knock the bolt out. if the thread has striped then it will come out fairly easy.

keep turning the nut on the bolt then. it will soon mess the threads up enough for you to knock it out.

Worse comes to worse reckon it'll be ok to ride it a couple miles to a bike garage?

Also, I tried having a sit etc. On stock settings (whatever they are) its stiffer than the old shock! Doesnt shift 1mm when I plonk my bum on it. Guess I'll need to play with the settings.

Also can you confirm those washers are supposed to be on the inside?

no washers on the outside.

hong phone nitron and tell them how much of a plonker you are and they might send out a new nut/bolt for free.

I dont get how it stripped then - the bottom 2 prongs are very bloody stiff and I dont think they are meant to be "pinched" tight with the nut/bolt. But there is defo about 1.5mm play horizontally (you can see the gap in the picture)
