Rub black frame back to aluminium
Hi all,
I am looking to buy an SV650S around 2003-4 model. I have seen that some models have a black frame but I prefer the shiny silver aluminium finish that I had with my old model. I was wondering if anyone has tried to remove the black finish and what might be involved in such an undertaking. Thanks for your responses. |
Re: Rub black frame back to aluminium
I think it would be a lot of work and the metal underneath might not be the same as the finish like on my Curvy's Satin finish and if ferrous might just rust/corrode quickly.
I would be tempted to ring local for possible,"Powder coating" with a Satin/Alloy finish? If you want a,"Cheap and Cheerful" solution the Plastikote Satin finish Aerosol paint I used to use on my CX500 engines is amazing, https://i.imgur.com/wOYwzcC.jpg Not only can it handle heat it's easy to use/spray and touch-ups are a dream.Dries super fast and can be compounded down for an even more robust finish. |

2003 and 2004 both had silver frames. The black frames didn't come till the K5 model

Agreed. I wanted a black frame so I only looked at K5 onwards models when I was buying a few years ago. Everything before was silver. I also eventually decided I wanted twin spark, so the search became K8 onwards. |

Also, the silver frames are painted silver, not bare or clear coated metal.

Re: Rub black frame back to aluminium
if it were woodwork you'd have it dipped in a vat of solvent, however as it's metal there might be a tough base layer to contend with. if the frame is aluminium you can't really bead blast it either, as you would with steel. If you want silver you're better off repainting really, or maybe you can get powder coating in something similar?
