GMX - The Applecross Edition - Details

GMX…THE APPLECROSS EDITION

Date – Friday 8th September 2017 to Sunday 10th September 2017…Plus optional Sunday ride-out.

Venue – The gorgeous coastal village of Applecross
http://www.applecross.uk.com/about-applecross/

Accommodation – The campsite is the obvious choice with camping, camping huts, caravans and a B&B.
The Applecross Inn sits below the campsite and does B&B.
http://applecross.uk.com/campsite/
http://www.applecross.uk.com/inn/

The Applecross Inn serves fantastic food both indoors and in the beer garden (which has the most amazing views and the most friendly midges).
There’s also a retro food van at the Applecross Inn which serves Fish & Chips plus Ice Cream and hot drinks.

The campsite has a café which serves great breakfasts.

The exact ride-out details will follow, but currently looks like this….

Friday 8th September
Arrive, check-in and meet at the Applecross Inn for drinks and food.
Saturday 9th September
Rideout around the coast (Cowards Way), to Ullapool, via Torridon, Kinlochewe and Poolewe….lunch in Ullapool (115 Miles).
Return to Applecross via Garve and over the Bealach na Ba (85 miles).
Sunday 10th September
Head for home….or if you want to do the “Applecross Add-On” stay for a Lap of Skye with lunch at Dunvegan Castle and back to Applecross for a final night (195 miles).
Monday 11th September
“Applecross Add-On” people head home (via the Glenelg ferry if interested).

If you’ve never been up here, then it’s a must.
If you have been up here, then there’s really no excuse for not coming back.
Scenery and roads are spectacular.

Please book your accommodation early (as in now) to guarantee the type you want.
It is greatly advised to come with suitable breakdown cover.

If you are coming then please add your details to this thread.

Please keep the chat to the “GMX – The Applecross Edition 8th to 10th Sept 2017” thread…http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=224881&page=9

Any questions can be put in the chat thread or if you prefer to you can PM me.

Route info. Google maps links through the Facebook group.

If possible, please fill up with fuel when you arrive in Applecross on the Friday to start Saturday with a full tank.

SATURDAY – Aiming to leave from the campsite at 10am (at latest).

Morning…….
Applecrosss to Gairloch - 61 miles – With a 15 minute stop outside the General Store in Torridon.
Gairloch to Ullapool - 56 miles
Lochbroom Filling Station for fuel as we enter Ullapool. Fill up when you arrive in Ullapool.
Lunch in Ullapool – I propose “The Frigate” café which is on the shore road about 100m after the petrol station. If you can’t get parked outside, tough. Go find a place and walk back.
There’s other options for lunch in Ullapool, so feel free to suit yourself and meet up back at The Frigate an hour after arriving in Ullapool.

Afternoon………
Ullapool to Garve - 32 miles – Short re-group in Garve Hotel car park.
Garve to Applecross - 55 miles – Stop in Lochcarron for 15 minutes (fuel and bank here if needed).
Other stops as directed by the bladder of the leader.

SUNDAY – Aiming to leave from the campsite at 10am (at latest).

Morning…….
Applecross to Portree - 75 miles and 2 hours
15 minute fuel stop at Broadford and an hour for lunch in Portree. Park up at main square. Lunch wherever you want (I’ll be having some overpriced fish&chips down at the harbour).

Afternoon has 2 options….Portree to Applecross with Uig and Dunvegan loops - 150 miles and 4 hours
Quick stop somewhere up near Staffin, then coffee at Uig (ferry terminal) and pee at Dunvegan (car park with toilets on shore road). Fuel stop in Broadford (101 miles from Portree) then back to Applecross.

Or a shorter option…..
Portree to Applecross with only Dunvegan loop - 109 miles and 3 hours
As the longer route but stops are Dunvegan and Broadford.

MONDAY – Aiming to leave from the campsite at 10am (at latest).
Applecross to Broadford - 49 miles Fuel
Broadford to Kylerhea for the Glenelg Ferry (approx £6 for bike and rider) - 11 miles
Glenelg to Fort William - 70 miles Fuel, lunch and goodbyes.

As above, I am co-habiting with some other punters for the Friday and Saturday night but have just booked what I think may the last hut for the Sunday night. If anyone is looking to share on the Sunday just let me know.

You don't know about the Facebook group? Man, it's amazing! The laughs and crazy times we have there you would not believe.

But it's secret. I've already said too much. The first rule of GM10 group is do not speak about GM10 group...
