Link Pipe

I am new to the SV so learning still.
I have read loads of threads and posts saying that you can't fit a 02< linkpipe on a 03> and the other way around.
But no one has said why you can't. So could someone please enlighten me.
It's like with the 9r, you can't fit a linkpipe on a 00-01 from a 02-03 as the downpipes to link pipe are female on the 00-01 and male on the 02-03.
Sorry for having to ask such a simple question.

Cheers Mart

Re: Link Pipe

For both the curvy and pointy SVs, you need to cut the factory exhaust to fit an aftermarket can, and because the frame changed when the pointy was introduced in 2003, the pointy exhausts are different to the earlier curvies, with different angles of curvature etc. So they're not directly interchangeable.

Re: Link Pipe

Well i bought a secondhand can and link pipe off good old eBay thinking i would need to buy a new link pipe as the one i bought was for a Gen2.
Took the standard can off as it had already been cut, only to find the link pipe i got with the can was a spot on fit on my wife Gen1 curvy.
So i'm well happy as it's only cost me £56 with a new strap.
It's made by Carbon Can Co (MTC) With only one small dent in it.
It was a 450mm can, But now after an hour in my workshop it's a 350mm can. The 100mm i removed also removed the small dent, so it's now dent free.
