Electrical Issues - Datatool

Hi guys, I need your expertise on electrical issues. (SV650s K5)

Was about to ride home tonight and the bike would not turn on properly. The lights came on but the LCD dash did not. Thought the battery was a bit low so pulled out the lights but no joy.
Tracked down the problem to the ignition and fuel fuses that had blown. Swapped for the spares but as soon as i plugged them in there was a small billow of smoke coming from the Datatool box and it was very hot!! And the fuel fuse had blown again.

On the plus side the LCD display came back on but the FI light was flashing.

I've not had the chance to pull the panels off to have a proper look, but has anyone got any immediate suggestions or worries? Can the datatool be simply disconnected?

Yes it can. Well I removed it and I'm quite simple.

Re: Electrical Issues - Datatool

So I had a good tinker last night. It turns out that I don't have a Datatool alarm but a Meta Systems 357 and it was the culprit.
I decided to fully gut it out. Most of it was straight forward unplug-and-play, but I'm left with 5 wires of the same colour and I can't figure out how they go together! The Haynes manual does not appear to show what these wires are. They all seem to be black with a green dot.

Please help a stranded bike!?!

I think these are the earth circuit. Hopefully I can attach this image, if not look at page 4 of my link.
Top post shows the image - taken from Haynes Manual. The two wires I've circled in red need to be linked to complete the circuit.
No link no running bike.

On my bike the black wires were all connected to a white joining block, this in turn was where the alarm plugged in. I simple cut the wires the alarm side of the block, and soldered the correct two together. Yours looks like someone may have removed the block. You will need to find the Yellow and white cable from the Ignition HT coil, and the Yellow and Green Mode Select Switch. Link them.

Are these the two black wires at the top of the 'alarm system' bit? And also, what does your writing say next to the far right black wire that you circled?

Cheers for your help btw. I'll be off to tinker some more in an hour or so, hopefully everything goes according to plan and i have a working bike :)

Ah, you mean you can't read hieroglyphics. I should have been a doctor.

That was me just tracing the cables back to where they came from, up until then I'd never tried to read a wiring diagram. I'm no expert so take my advice with good will. It's hard to really say as I found this tricky when I could see the wires in front of me. Have you managed to locate an actual alarm connecting block?

On the diagram yes that loop above the block, I guess from factory it has another side that joins the two wires, but when an alarm is fitted it's removed.

Translation to English - Red Cable, Fuse, Indicator.

Plus my alarm was ****ing me off by then. Good Luck.
