points, date of offence or date of conviction?

when does the clock start ticking for points?

i was in court on friday and got 3 points date of offence was july 06 date of conviction is apr 07, now, i thought that points ran from when you commited the offence (they do when they o**** them for topping up), but why put the date of conviction on you licence as well if its for no particular reason?

just found this, answered my own question lol..........

3 years from date of offence, conviction dates on as some offences run from the date of the conviction.

4 years...

Endorsements must remain on a licence for four years from the date of offence in all other cases

Maybe its me that is being a numpity but I read that as only endorsments. What constitutes an endorsement
I have 3 Fixed penalty points which I recieved 2/4/04,but understood these to be obsolete after 3years which would allow me to apply for a clean license again-----------Right or wrong

wrong.

the points no longer count toward topping up, but, you cant have them removed from your licence for 4 yrs, some offences like death by dangerous driving i think have to stay on for 5 or 10 yrs.

so if you get 3 for speeding they count for 3 yr, then can be removed from your licence after 4

so to be able to send your licence away to be "cleaned" you have to have had no points for 4yr from date of offence and send £18 or so

I didn't know that you have to pay. Flamin cheek:mad: I'm some way till I can apply for a clean licence, 30 January 2010 to be exact, it won't be £18 then I'll bet.

I think the only thing that is free is a change of address or name.

So, once the points are beyond 4yrs old why not tell them you're moving to your (mums/other halfs/uncle bobs) and let them know the points need removing at that time, then send it again to swap it back to your address???

Or just leave them on it like i have. Who cares, they're meaningless now. Why give them another penny!!!! :smt102
