I hope rictus comes along and tells us the tale of his SV. He racked up many MANY miles.

I have 35,300 miles on my 1999 SV-s. It gets new oil and filter every 5000 miles, spark plugs every 10,000, airfilter...err...every 17,000 (the miles i've owned it!!), valve check every 15,000 miles. I clean it regularly, oil bits, WD40 other bits, clean the chain every fortnight with parrafin without fail, check tyre pressures and oil level and coolant level regularly, ride it with care until its warmed up (no full throttle, no more than 5,000 rpm) and sort out the niggles before they turn into a big problem that leaves me stranded road side.

Its my workhorse, my plaything, and in some ways...a companion. Its never really missed a beat, apart form some carb-icing and a duff reg/rec. I wont be getting rid of it, even when I get my next bike.

A new life beckons for it...

Theres a guy in the USA who used to post on here, IIRC his bike had or has done over 100,000 miles. I think that was just with regular servicing oil changes etc...

There's a clause in policies where you estimate your annual mileage.

Re: Who looks after their sv .

I've done 15,000 miles on mine since I got it 14 months back, including 2 months being unable to ride due to accident and theft.

Oil-changes every 2.5k miles (commute 6 miles to work on it, so lots of short journies), new air-filter when it passed 15k on the clock, new chain and sprockets at 16k miles, replaced a set of discs because one of the rivets holding it to the carrier had gone and it was all floppy, new set of plugs about 6,000 miles ago (and they still look newish), and 2 sets of pads. Everything else done to the bike has been either an upgrade or just tidying it. It gets cleaned about once a week in the summer, over the winter it got a layer of acf-50 and no cleaning (apart from getting salt crap off it).

Still runs exactly how it did when I got it. Short of the engine going bang for mystery reasons, I can't see why it won't get up to the 100k mile range (and I'm going to be damned if I don't get it there when others have) with a bit of TLC.
