Fork tube bottom bush question

So im replacing my pitted stanchions with new ones and im fine with the strip and rebuild however it states that "if removing bottom bush" new ones should be fitted.

So, my question is.

if i purchase new bush's how do i fit them to a new tube, is it the case of simply stretching the gap with a screwdriver and sliding it on and into the recess, if so why cant i just re use the old bush's ? or is there a more specific method of fitting?

The lower outer ones will just spread slightly and clip around the stanchion. The upper ones need to be driven into the top of the fork lowers with the stanchions etc in place and can sometimes get a bit deformed from being pulled out or driven in multiple times. The lower ones are very easy to put in place.

Any work like that and I'd take it as an opportunity to put in new bushes and fork seals while it's all apart, unless it's already been done recently?

+ If you do get replacement bushes then avoid the Pyramid ones on eBay. I bought them and had to send them back as they were totally the wrong size, no way they were going to fit. They denied that they were wrong but accepted the return anyway.

I think I go them from Wemoto in the end.

Cool, i was just worried that id need a special tool or something, and yeah i usually get my stuff from wemoto too, thats where the stanchions came from but i couldnt find the bush's so iv ordered them from MSP (motorcycle spare parts) seems like a pretty good site and they seem to be a bit better priced than Robinsons for OEM stuff

Bottom ones need no special tool. Upper ones can be driven in with the right bearing driver, or the plastic pipe and u-clips cheap method.
