January Photo Competition: CASTLE : VOTE OFF
Thanks to everyone who liked my photo last month.
This month's theme is Castle and please list it's name along with your pic. Looking forward to this month's entries! One of the things that makes the UK such a unique and beautiful place. ( at least to us tourists) ;) Here's my example : Inside 'the keep' at Skenfrith Castle. http://i1055.photobucket.com/albums/...ps23eb6e14.jpg |
Re: January Photo Competition: CASTLE
Well done Bill & I quite like this month's theme.
I have loads of pictures of castles & I don't normally put any "messed about with" pics in for the comp, but this month I've made an exception. Turned to black & white & a wee bit of HDR to make the picture a little eerie. This is Moreton Corbet Castle in Shropshire https://scontent-b-lhr.xx.fbcdn.net/...23881856_n.jpg |

Re: January Photo Competition: CASTLE
Changed my pic for one taken for the comp. We're a bit short on castles in South Bucks and this is the nearest one, across the county border at Berkhamstead, that actually has anything visible. Not great light but it was a good excuse to get out of the house so what the hey.
A few bits of the curtain wall are still standing but the notable features are the moats (an inner and outer one) that still have water in places as well as the motte, which is, unusually, outside the inner bailey. All the stone of the keep was robbed out and reused which is a shame. Pic shows the inner moat, the rather forlorn motte on the left, and the bailey on the right. http://i1210.photobucket.com/albums/...ps8616e1e3.jpg |

Taken atop Cetatea Poenari (Fortress Penari) in Romania.
It's very interesting and I recommend you all read about it!: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Poenari_Castle I climbed 1480 steps to get to this castle, and then onto the highest wall of the castle which I could find, to take this photo. It was VERY high up, and I was teetering on the edge of a VERY long fall backwards. To the right, where the barriers are, the part of the castle collapsed during a landslide in 1888, which reveals the valley in which the Transfaragasan lies (Google it. Biker porn. Was on Top Gear). The two people are Belinda and Nicolas, the friends I was adventuring with. http://farm3.staticflickr.com/2816/1...1599dbcd_k.jpg Taken on a compact. Did a bit of HDR, desaturated a bit, and edited out 7 people. I'll show you the original if I win :) |
