Mine is 7 or 8 months old now. I have 15k on the clock. I bought it brand new.

Whatever the milage, make sure it has a service history!

You can usually set your watch by my service schedule!

(you might be 200miles late for work if you did, but you get the point!)

I got 130,000+ trouble free miles , after that, no serious troubles but noticable increase in oil consumption

compression test @ 135k service revealed 230psi compression rear cylinder and 90psi for the front. subsequent engine teardown revealed valve guides worn beyond service limits (consistent with oil consumption, only smoked a bit on startup), one exaust valve in front was not seating properly due to valveguide,

pistons & rings were not worn beyond service limits but worn enuf to warrant replacement

crank, rods & bearings all ok, but cam chains worn beyond service limits, so case will need to be split for rebuild anyway,

bike was 100% dealer serviced, per chart in owners manual, no more, no less

this bike was used as an adventure bike, at least 40,000 miles of total were gravel roads & fire trails, prolly a couple thousand miles of single track dirtbike trail, stanting on pegs slipping clutch in 1st &2nd gear, maybe 15,000 miles or so of divided highway and the rest, rural & secondary roads, less than 500 miles of urban riding

original clutch lasted 102k, at that time only fibre plates & springs were changed, still has original steel plates

voltage regulator/rectifer was replaced 2 times, nothng else except normal oil changes, tuneups etc. valve clearance only needed adjustment 2 times forts time @ 75k, second time @ 120k

YMMV

My K5 is gonna be 2 yeas old at the end of june and has done 27,000 miles so far. It's never let me down once, I had a new chain and sprocket at about 20,000 miles, serviced it, put tyres on it and fueled it up and thats it.

I only ever get about 130 miles between fuel fill-ups.

I'm impressed! ;)
