Removing carbs.
 

anyone know a website that tells you how to remove carbs.
i noticed today tryin to solve a prob with my bike there was water in my rear carb is this common or am i screwed. can i do this with no expierence.
from wot i read and heard i need to empty some float bowl thinghy
my bike is a 2000 sv650 no mods

1) you have arrived at that website! Check the main website (www.sv650.org), it should have info on carb removal. Otherwise, all you need to do is get the riders seat off, get the tank up and on the prop, remove the air box using a very long phillips screwdriver to undo the screws for the clips connecting the carbs to the air box. I beleive th carbs themselves come off in a similar way aswell (cant remember though)

Water in carbs is sort of common. You are correct in that you need to drain the carb float bowl, although I don't know how to do this (I think its one screw?). You may want to drain the fuel out of the tank aswell, incase its water in the petrol that has separated out (water is denser than petrol hence it sits at the bottom, and will keep getting pulled through)


Provided you are careful, slow and use common sense (and the correct tools!!!), the job shouldnt be beyond you :)

If you have water in your tank your tank drain may be blocked or broken like mine. Have a read of this thread. http://forums.sv650.org/showthread.php?t=106885

How would you know if you have water in your carbs? if its a silly question feel free to berate but i wouldn't how to look for this?

to be honest i spotted bu fluke. jus had the tank and air filter off and i could actually see the water in the carb dont know why but tasted it to make sure lol
but i drained it and still no joy bike wont start at all it turns jus wont fire

think ill have to check plugs so annoying to get that front one out

lol you have a pointy sv (ashuning thats ures in ure avitar) they dont have carbs they are fuel injected = no carbs

If you have water in your tank it separates from your petrol and sits below it as can be seen clearly in the picture below. So even if you drain your carbs you're still only going to refill them with water. You need to remove your tank and undo the 2 x 10mm bolts and carefully remove the fuel tap. Now drain the tank into a bucket and you'll soon see if you have water in there. Scoop the petrol off the top and put back in the tank or just put fresh fuel in. Now you just need to clear the fuel drain tube whilst it’s off to stop a reoccurrence.
