Happy Birthday Britains first Motorway

Today, the M6 round preston, AKA the Preston bypass turns 60. Opened by Harold McMillan who was the first to travel on it in an Austin Sheerline

When it opened there were no speed limits and only two lanes in each direction.

Today that section has 4 in each direction.But as a birthday treat lane 4 was closed due to flooding.

And Tim was the reason there's a speed limit. Those BL vehicles were quick sometimes

Yup, worked on a restoration and the owner decided to have a sneaky test. Brought it back on a truck and start again.
The saying was something like turns the curves on a motorway into bends.

Well there is a massive decent down Shap into Lancashire means a very good speed is maintainable through the county
