Building a intake with a single mechanical TB from the 60's
 

I am a bit crazy but I believe this is worth a try, on my 02 sv650 Cafe Racer
It is called a fish Carburettor Designed circa 1930 but in truth it is a mechanical map sensor that dispenses fuel and air (dual fuel) thru a throttle shaft that doubles as a spray bar, and as such is also altitude compensation.

Anyone remember the Wal Phillips fuel injector ?

Not crazy at all, they were originally called 'Reece Fish' carbs, I used them on my Maguire Mini back in the 80's.
Very easy to calibrate and very reliable once tuned to your particular application.
Will be interested to hear how you get on with it.

You are on the right path the Reece fish was a unofficial copy for European applications the official euro model was the minnow fish.
The reece fish had the nice feature of pivoting metering assembly so it could be side draft,semi own draft or down draft.
The minnow fish was only down draft (to my knowledge) due to the bell mouth shape.
The one I am using is much older and made for American car application

An update
I notched out the metering pickup,(to reduce the minimum fuel flow rate) but due to tight tolerances not much was gained.
I may have to live with a hi idle but the exhaust noise is way louder.(too loud a real surprise)
I will do some more fine adjustments and test rides tomorrow. but dyno tuning still won't happen till mid January)

Sounds really interesting, the reece fish setup i had on my maguire were a bit of a frankenstein affair tbh, I didn't know much about them at the time as they were already fitted when I bought the car for Hill climb. I had them set up by a local guru and they performed faultlessly from there on. He told me they were ideally suited to the Arden 8 port head i was using so never felt the need to change them for Webbers or the like.

Ok. Time for an update,

If idle speed is correct too much fuel is being delivered thru out the whole range. If I adjust for a 3500 rpm Idle I can get it all good.

So I am going to try a 2nd spray bar I have for the 100 hp version which has smaller holes I am not sure of compatibility with this larger TB but it's the best bet at this time.

IMHO If these proprietary items were any good they would have replaced carbs, they must be a lot cheaper to produce. There is a lot of technology in carbs that had been developed over a long time for their purpose..
